DEERFIELD — Beam, the maker of Jim Beam and Marker’s Mark alcohol brands, has agreed to be acquired by Japan’s Suntory Holdings Ltd. for approximately $13.62 billion.
Shares of the spirits maker jumped in Monday premarket trading.
Suntory has a portfolio of spirits, with whiskies including Yamazaki and Hakushu as well as Midori liqueur and other beverages. It already distributes Beam’s products in Japan. Beam distributes Suntory’s products in Singapore and other Asian markets.
Suntory President and Chairman Nobutada Saji said in a statement that the acquisition will help Suntory further its global growth.
The combined company is expected to have annual sales of spirits products of more than $4.3 billion.

There are very few large-scale bourbon distilling companies which remain based in Kentucky.
Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill and Brown-Forman/Woodford Reserve are the only ones that come to mind.

As far as I know, Jack Black has been 80 proof for at least the last 38 years (which the length of time I’ve been paying attention to such things).
Four Roses, Old Pogue, WIllett, Wild Turkey. Wild Turkey is owned by an Italian company.
I’ve been to them all. Have to say, my favorite aged bourbons are Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace. I also don’t mind the White Dog - unaged corn liquor, a.k.a moonshine - and have made a wee bit myself, strictly for medicinal purposes.
Wasn’t it 86 proof for a time? (How the heck would I remember, anyway?)
81 - Undrinkable
101 - Very good “everyday” bourbon.
Russell’s Reserve - A step above 101
Rare Breed - Truly wonderful. Tied for my personal all-time favorite bourbon (with Knob Creek).
Kentucky Spirit - Outstanding High-End bourbon with very high alcohol content - perhaps best left to the professionals
That’s my opinion of their major brands.
PS - I’m still disappointed beyond description that Wild Turkey have discontinued their 101 proof Rye Whiskey.
After MM tried to lower the proof last year, I doubt the Japanese will try anything similar for at least a year.

Wild Turkey is a sacrament which gets passed down from generation to generation in my family, but neither wild turkey nor four roses are owned by companies based in Kentucky.
Their distilleries are located in Kentucky, for it would violate the Will of God to have it otherwise, but I was remarking on the fact that many/most of the old-line brands are now owned by conglomerates based outside the US,
Lowering to 80 proof Jack Daniel's black label was historically produced at 90 U.S. proof (45% alcohol by volume).[14] The lower-end green label product was 80 proof. However, starting in 1987, the other label variations were also reduced in proof. This began with black label being initially reduced to 86 proof. (Both the black label and green label are made from the same ingredients; the difference is determined by professional tasters, who decide which of the batches would be sold under the higher-priced black label, the rest being sold under the green label.)
Then, starting in 2002, all generally-available Jack Daniel's products were diluted to 80 proof (including both black label and green label).[15] The reason stated for this was that the distillery's marketing had found that customers preferred a lower proof whiskey; this also simplified the production process.[citation needed] This reduction in alcohol content was condemned by Modern Drunkard Magazine and a petition was formed for drinkers who disagreed with the change.
Jack Daniel's has produced higher-proof products at times. A one-time limited run of 96 proof, the highest proof Jack Daniel's had ever bottled at that time, was bottled for the 1996 Tennessee Bicentennial in a decorative bicentennial bottle. The distillery debuted their 94 proof "Jack Daniel's Single Barrel" in February 1997. The "2011 Holiday Select" is currently the company's highest proof at 100.
Maker’s Mark watered down its product not long ago. This would show stronger short-term profits (at the future expense of the brand).
Perfect strategy for preparing to sell out.
Actually, I think you are correct.
My memory cannot be trusted regarding Tennessee Whiskey - especially when there is so much Kentucky Bourbon available.
