Cops here deal with an entirely different type of people. They HAVE to be aggresive... even with bystanders. Bystanders here would cause more trouble than the perp if left uncontrolled.

Really? You think it benefits the police to act like an invading army?

Ten years ago, this site was a lot more willing to give police the benefit of the doubt than they are today. I believed the police have earned the distrust of the citizens. The only thing I'm willing to call a cop about is to fill out paperwork. They are simply too dangerous to have around. I'll take care of my own life, liberty and property.

But not before six flash grenades were launched into Grandma’s living room next door, a battering ram knocked a church off its foundation and 400 rounds were emptied into an unoccupied lawn tractor...

The post you responded to was long, thoughtful and well reasoned. You caused him of being a 60’s radical calling cops “baby killers”.

The poster in question was discussing the public relations nightmare cops have created for themselves then he followed up with the moral society warning given by our founding fathers. That’s why I asked the question.

No, I didn't cause him to be a 60s radical and call cops pigs it was the weed you can now buy legally next door in Colorado that caused them to do that.

. Tripped up once again by auto correct. When people get tripped up by auto correct they cause confusion. When they cause confusion mistakes are made by others. When enough mistakes are caused by others mass hysteria ensues. When mass hysteria ensues the National Guard is called out to quell the masses. DON'T cause the National Guard to be called out to quell the masses. Switch to Direct TV and quit using auto-correct.

Here in America?

The man would have been immediately shot dead. The entire area, for several blocks around, would have been put on ‘lockdown’, with everyone marched out at gunpoint, looking for more ‘dangerous weapons’ and a possible ‘second macheteman’. Democrats, in response to this incident, would have immediately gone on MSNBC calling for strict gun control. Major newspapers would find a way to blame Republicans. Pantsy Nelosi would have claimed that Obamacare needed to be expanded to include coverage against Machete strikes. John Boenher would have cried, then called for comprehensive amnesty.

The responses to this story (and many, many similar ones over the past few years) should be a wake-up call to the “Fraternal Order Of Police” or whatever they call themselves.

They have a SERIOUS public relations problem - first of all, in how far too many police units relate to the public and secondly the attitude the public has toward them. Deeper still is the perception that many policemen & police departments don’t give a hoot as to how the public perceives them, “Just do what I say... NOW!”

We have far too many groups in power or “public service” who fail to exercise restraint or to deal with the lawbreakers & rogues within their ranks.

Congress
Lawyers
Police
Federal Bureaucrats

Did I miss anyone?

The stability and smooth functioning of a society depend on the Character, Competence and Integrity of these groups. Yes, none have ever been perfect, but there must be the perception that they are working for the good of society.

Traffic lights are a wonderful & necessary thing to the smooth, safe flow of vehicles in a modern city. People trust that when they get a “GREEN” the crossing traffic will have a “RED”. Sure there are idiots who run red lights, but the SYSTEM is trustworthy. Lights occasionally burn out and timers get stuck. But we drive around daily counting on traffic lights to do the right thing. If you have ever been in a 3rd world country where the traffic light do not work properly or at all, you have seen that people ignore them and “do their own thing”.

We are perilously close to the point where the police are perceived as a broken system and part of the problem, not just in by those living the ghetto but also by those in suburbia and in the shopping districts.

Get rid of 95% of the SWAT teams. Get the truly dangerous people put away and stop the revolving door. Get rid of the US against the world attitude in many police departments.

Duty, Honor and Integrity take precedence over loyalty directed at covering up the wrong doing of a fellow policeman.

“But should the people of America once become capable of that deep simulation towards one another, and towards foreign nations, which assumes the language of justice and moderation, while it is practising iniquity and extravagance, and displays in the most captivating manner the charming pictures of candour, frankness, and sincerity, while it is rioting in rapine and insolence, this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world. Because we have no government, armed with power, capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge and licentiousness would break the strongest cords of our Constitution, as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. “

“There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.”

This animosity you have for the police could probably be traced back to the 1960s when you called the cops “Pigs” and you called Vietnam Veterans “Baby Killers.”

Corporal, USMC RVN 1968-69, Field Radio Operator, 81mm Mortar FO, Tunnel Rat.

Sometimes it is best to get a bit more information before one makes an assumption.

Up until quite recently I viewed nearly all of the police as a necessary part of a smoothly functioning society. There have always been a few rotten apples, and an occasional rotten barrel, so to speak. But most police and police departments have been good.

The recent widespread dissemination, due to the internet, of stories of police indiscipline, incompetence and arrogance has caused me to shift my views. Far too many instances of police shooting when they should not.

"If you go armed for bear, everything you see becomes a bear."

Police and local government administrators and local judges bear an equal portion of the blame.

By the way, I have never called a policeman a "Pig" and most likely will never do so.
