The reason you have to ask this is that you are making the mistake that so many in this country are still making, despite all the evidence to the contrary: you are assuming that the people in charge trying to do what benefits the country. They are not. They are simply trying to gain totalitarian control over all of us and enrich themselves while they do it. That is all.

It's like the old libertarian maxim (the real libertarian philosophy, not the current BS) "If you assume that all members of Congress, the Executive Branch and the judiciary are a bunch of lying thieves, all else logically falls into place."
