This Texas Congressman Is Now Accepting Bitcoins For His Senate Run
Business Insider ^ | 01 January 2014 | Robe Wile

Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) is the outsider's outsider — what other Texan would spend a freezing New Year's hundreds of miles away in New York City?

But there he was last night at the launch event for the NYC Bitcoin Center, located just up the street from the New York Stock Exchange.

Stockman's attendance was a favor to Center founder Nick Spanos, a real estate developer and Bitcoin enthusiast. Spanos helped phone bank on Stockman's most recent Congressional campaign.

The Center itself is still in something of a planning stage, existing more as a statement about Bitcoin itself, though it plans on hosting a hackathon later this month.

Stockman, a vocal opponent of Fed policy, told Business Insider last night that he wants to promote Bitcoin, whose most fervent evangelists tout as an alternative to fiat currency.

This takes untraceable campaign donations to the next level.

Might even catch Obama in untraceable donations.

As much as I would like to see him kick Cornyn out, the only place where you can find anything regarding Steve Stockman is here on FR. Not an ad, not a yard sign, not a single bumper sticker here.

If here means Texas then are you seeing any activity at all from any of the other
seven candidates. I understand Cornyn has media advertising ongoing
but I’ve not seen anything about the others. I’m sure some are making personal
appearances but Texas is so large it needs mass media, imo. Thanks for any
info you may provide.

Only Cornyn’s radio ads.

Stockman must be waiting on the Cruz style grassroots to push him into the public’s awareness. Stockman ain’t no Cruz, charisma-wise!

None of the “others” have a snowball’s chance anyway.

Sure would have been nice if Guv’ner Goodhair had thrown his hat in that ring.

I'm not a bitcoin fan and don't get it. But if people will donate bitcoins to this campaign and he can use them to pay for stuff, why not? I'm sure it will drive the IRS nuts.

I’m thinking of making my own Stockman signs.

My main concern is that Government and their fed friends will simply render them valueless.

Thanks. I don’t think any have a real chance but I’m not there any longer so I
don’t know the general feelings that are being displayed. Stockman is somewhat
known in SE Tx but statewide I doubt many have heard of him. If he gets close
then expect to see a lot of Stockman’s past being used by Cornyn.

Take care.

Cornyn is already running attack ads on Steve Stockman in the Houston television market.

The main risk, right now, with Bitcoin is that the government will act in response to the real threat that Bitcoin has to the gov’t’s/thieves’ power.

That would make sense since that is the area in which Stockman is best known.

I think three of them are from the SE Tx area:
Stockman
Stoval
Vega
