Judge grants six-month delay on letting gun shops set up in Chicago

A federal judge Tuesday granted the city the six months Mayor Rahm Emanuel said it needs to figure out where to allow gun shops in Chicago.

U.S. District Court Judge Edmond Chang said his decision balances the needs of the city to craft regulations with the public’s Second Amendment rights.

Pete Patterson, an attorney for gun rights advocates, told Chang the six-month time frame is too long. Patterson said the city acted far more quickly to a court ruling that overturned the statewide ban on carrying concealed weapons in Illinois.

But Andrew Worseck, a city Law Department attorney, said that in that case, the legal fight was far more prolonged — giving city officials more time to draft regulations.

To accommodate this stay, is this judge also granting a Cease Fire that covers the criminals?

In pre-Heller DC, it was impossible to buy a handgun. After Heller, it is only nearly impossible.

The same stradegy will apply to Chicago gunstores.

Where to allow gun shops in Chicago? Next to the Walmarts? Oh wait. I forgot, Walmart is not allowed in Chicago. Well, they can put them next to liquor stores and strip clubs. Those are pretty seedy areas that nobody cares about.

(Talk about freedom lost...)

Let me guess. They’re going to decide they can’t be within 1000 ft of a school. That they can’t be within 500 ft of a youth center. Can’t be within 500 ft of a park or playground. Can’t be within 200 ft of a liquor store, bar, or restaurant that serves alcohol... Other than that, you’re free to open up your firearms store anywhere you want in the city... What’s that? There are no commercial sites that meet these criteria? Well, gee, imagine that...

LOL. They will decide that no gun stores can be opened within 200’ of dry land.

wtf?

They don’t get their way so they ask for a ‘delay’ - which is the same thing as getting their way...

Endless delay tactics are the same as a gun ban.

APPEAL THIS DELAY! The law to allow guns did NOT say to allow them only in certain places that the city decides to ‘let’ them go...

At some point a judge might need to actually smack Emmanuel over the head and explicitly tell that idiot fascist that the Second Amendment of the US Constitution actually applies to his proletariat—I mean slaves—I mean “free” citizens.

Though I like Chicago (or at least the Bears), I am extremely glad that I do not live there.

That sounds about right. Seriously, I'll bet you the delay is so they can survey and figure out just what "reasonable" restrictions like the ones we've mentioned are necessary to wipe out any chance of someone finding a site that can be a firearms store. Right now there are a dozen ardent believers pouring over maps and google earth measuring, figuring...

That, or they've already done their homework and some of their cronies are buying up a few choice properties. Once the regs come out, they will sell them at a huge profit to anyone who wants to open a firearms store in one of the handful of possible sites. They're using the 6 months to hope people don't look back too far to see who's benefiting...

When they do open I hope the owners are prepared for daily visits from the building inspector.

The difference is, if you are a DC resident, you can't buy a gun in Virginia. A Chicago resident can buy a gun outside Chicago.

That is true, but those in extremely poor neighborhoods probably wouldn't be able to go out to the suburbs to buy their personal defense handgun. Or they would have to take the bus or Metro, which (unless I'm mistaken) are victim disarmament zones.

This delay doesn't hurt the commuters or more-wealthy Chicago residents nearly as much as the poor people who really need a gun for self defense.

Meanwhile, I hope that somebody is setting up a combination gun shop, range, and CCW training center just outside the Chicago city limits, near a Chicago commuter rail station.

If you drive through even the poorest neighborhoods, you will notice that there are cars parked in them. Even the poorest residents will know SOMEBODY who has a vehicle.

Plus, if there's a gun store near a commuter rail station just outside Chicago, they can make a deal where, if you buy a gun, you get a free van ride home.

These statist criminals don't get "shall not be infringed", do they?

I am sorry for the people who live there, but I am treating the Prison States as if they are another (hostile) country. On my DO NOT VISIT list: CA, HI, WA, IL, MD, NJ, NY, MA, CT, DE, RI. And Maine, VT & NH, but only because they behind enemy lines.
