How bad is Mexico City for American gringos? I’m thinking of visiting there this year.

We don’t hear much about things being dangerous in Mexico City. It seems not to be one of the war zones like Michoacán, Acapulco, or Sinaloa.

Stay in the Pink Zone.
If you want to tour the city, have the hotel designate a local guy with a car and hire him for the day. Make sure you know his fee before you get in his car.
Don't forget to buy his lunch if you stop for a meal.
