Get Ready for One-Party Rule If GOP Wins the Senate (reaction to Mitch McConnell floor speech)
The Fiscal Times ^ | 1/16/14 | Eric Pianin

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered an extraordinary floor speech last week in which he essentially auditioned for the job of Majority Leader – the one currently held by Democrat Harry Reid of Nevada.

For 40 minutes, the Kentucky Republican who is up for reelection this year railed against Reid and the Democratic majority for a take-it-or-leave it brand of governance akin to a “permanent sort of shirts-against-skins contest.”

McConnell outlined three main reforms the Republicans would adopt if they were to win control of the Senate in November: allowing a “more robust” committee process, permitting more amendments on the floor and forcing members to work a longer week in Washington.

“I’m not here to claim that we are without fault,” McConnell declared during the speech. “But I am certain of one thing — I’m absolutely certain of one thing — that the Senate can be better than it is.”

I have 0% confidence in 100% of what McConnell says

“McConnell outlined three main reforms the Republicans would adopt if they were to win control of the Senate in November: allowing a “more robust” committee process, permitting more amendments on the floor and forcing members to work a longer week in Washington.”

I see that you omitted “dramatically decreasing the size and scope of the federal government and returning it to its constitutional limits”, Mitch.

I guess that one is just not on your radar.

Once again, McConnell surrenders before the the battle has even been fought. Even if the Democrats get pulverized in the election, McConnell is advocating surrendering to them.

What kind of imbecile does this?

“Allied forces are advancing on Berlin from all sides, and it looks that Adolf Hitler’s Nazis are near collapse. So General Eisenhower is saying that if Hitler resigns now, he is offering to let him continue to rule over the remaining parts of Germany not yet conquered.”

(Okay, I do not want to extend this analogy to H.W. Bush and Saddam Hussein, though I could, to show what happens when you surrender when you shouldn’t. Wouldn’t be ‘prudent’, as he liked to say.)

In any event, at this point, instead of senate minority leader, McConnell should look forward to his new career as the president of his local chapter of Rotary Club.

No offense but if these are his big 3 selling points, we need a way more aggressive leader. Note he didn’t say anything about defeating the democrats.

Which is why Bitch McConnell, punch the TEA party in the face, has to be sent packing to retirement.

Thank you for your post . . . I will have to read up on the retired General . . . not real familiar with him. Agreed, a General might be what is needed to clean up the mess of the last 20~ or so years in the Executive Branch. I liked Bush but didn’t LOVE everything he did.

It is an interesting FACT that of the 44 presidents that we have had, not ONE had served in the United States Marine Corps.

If we can put a completely worthless “community organizer” into our White House, I believe it is time to see a Marine placed there.

OooRah!

In 2014 both McConnell and Boehner may be out of their jobs, not due to a GOP loss in November, but due to the American people becoming sick of the Washington ruling class and throwing the bums out of office.

That’s not a battle plan. That’s telling the Dems that......even though you were pieces of crap to us and ruled with an iron fist against us we are not like that. We will be noble and fair.

As usual McConnell is broadcasting his weakness.

I remember when the Republicans gained control of the Senate. The first thing Trent Lott did, was to surrender to the Democrats. Why should McConnell be any different? The Democrats aren’t worried. The Democrats KNOW that if the Republicans win control of the Senate that the Democrats will still run the Senate. The Republicans know it too.

If the Republicans win the Senate and if McConnell is the new Majority Leader, i don’t think there there will be much practical difference economically or politically. Obamacare will be formally cemented into place and decorated with new bells and whistles and flowers and the national progress to totalitarian hell will not abate.

“As usual McConnell is broadcasting his weakness.”

NOt just broadcasting it, admitting it.

He’s saying to the Dims, don’t worry about us, you’ll still get what you want even when you are in the minority.
