They could try using a 25’ length of rope around the neck and dropping the condemned from 35’ up. It would be pretty quick, if that’s the issue.

I am sure he was completely out. The drugs relaxed the muscles of his airway, hence the snoring and gasping.

Helium is vastly more expensive than nitrogen, and is in somewhat short supply.

In an opinion piece written for CNN earlier this week, a law professor noted that McGuire’s attorneys argued he would “suffocate to death in agony and terror.

And this is a bad thing?

Not that I sympathize with the worthless POS who was executed, but 10 minutes of convulsions? What they heck are they doing?
My veterinarian has a drug mixture he can inject into a 175 lb dog, which kills it in about 30 seconds with no convulsions, no spasms, no gasping for breath, no nothing except eyes closing, breathing and heartbeat slowing to a stop.

Why do we have to complicate things? Last I remember, this execution device has withstood court challenges, it is quick, it is VERY public, and seems it would have more of the desired effect:

I worked with placing N, on underground telephone cables and we all had to learn it’s dangers. “Never to be opened in enclosed areas”.

No controversy here, except perhaps that this demon did not suffer *enough*. I always feel badly for the family of the perp, but he deserved death, period.
We have had a spate of killings in NE Pa recently, and if I had my way, all the murderers would be dead before spring. Bob

We had one ... not sure how much is left, but the price has really jumped in the last 10 years.

It really doesnt have to be this way,,, I think they are purposely not using the right combination of drugs to make the death penalty a more controversial subject. As a Veterinarian, we use a two injection method, and it goes very smoothly. No their supply has been cut. Read why:

Ohio has been forced to find new drug protocols after European-based manufacturers banned U.S. prisons from using their drugs in executions -- among them, Danish-based Lundbeck, which manufactures pentobarbital. Sounds like a market has just opened up in the U.S.
Stingy Europe. They want to hog all their killin' drugs for grannies and sick children.

Expensive, and wasteful. Lead poisoning seemed to work fairly well for hundreds of years...what happened?

This is such a fake controversy. give the guy 20-30- heck give him 100 mg of ativan IV, followed by 4-500 mg of succinyl choline, 500meq of KCl, stick a tag on his toe, toss him in a bag and throw him in a hole. The walk away.
He’s a murdering POS and his family should be told that the state is getting rid of this cock roach and you’d be best to forget he ever existed.
