One thing Americans should consider, if you guys ever get around to reforming your tax system, is to allow married couples to decide how to split up the income. In Canada, for example, a husband can give his wife enough income so she has to file a tax return, but pay no taxes if her share of the income is insufficient to be taxed on, and the husband is then taxed on the rest.
