Too many of the Kamikaze Conservatives on this forum only know how to rant and rave, have their sacred litmus tests, and don’t understand that compromise is the winning art of politics. They would rather be “right” and inflexible and say home rather than vote for a less than perfect Republican.

Coburn, an ob-gyn, came to Washington with good motives like fiscal responsibility and protecting the sanctity of life, but times have changed.
I was disappointed when he disagreed with Ted Cruz’s stand several months ago, saying we needed to make the mandatory health insurance marketplace more “market friendly” (Romneycare).
I wish him well perhaps he just doesn’t want to be around when budget deals will get worse than the Murray-Ryan one last month because the creditors of the United States will demand it.
Cuts for programs all over the place and new taxes on everyone and everything......

Did Reagan compromise with the Air Traffic Controllers union or Soviet Union? Reagan did not like RINOs and would frequently rail against GOP mainstream.
Don’t use Reagan to defend Coburn and RINOs.
Coburn is a semi-RINO. At least he is calling for a convention of the States which is a good thing.

We can't afford "balanced conservatives". A true conservative will stand on principle for constitutional conservative principles, and articulate them in a way people will support. There are no "balanced liberals" because they stand by their principles and win every time.
We would've won this budget battle and ended the funding of ObamaCare and the mandate if it weren't for "balanced conservatives", whom I prefer to describe as backstabbing hypocrites.
I don't know Coburns record. Did he stand by Ted Cruz on all four votes, and speak in his support during the 21 hours? Is he unequivocal in his opposition to the invasion of the US? Did he vote against the past few votes to cave on budget cuts? If he is solid on all of those things, my statements do not apply to him.

In answer to your question, Fightin Whitey, a balanced conservative is someone who realizes that in order to get his way most of the time (and thus prevail in the end), he’s going to have to pick his battles, stand on his principles, and accept that no piece of legislation is perfect and he’s not going to always win.
And the far right will hate him for it.
In other words, he’s reasonable and persuasive and committed and able to get his way much (but not all) of the time.
Which isn’t easy to do when your side controls only 1/2 of 1/3 of the government.
Coburn is worn out. God bless him and his replacement.

All he did was distort the truth.
Conservatism = party of small government, because there has NEVER been a time in history when government has been a force for good. Government, always, is a necessary evil, and unless restrained, will seek to destroy the governed eventually.
Progressivism = government is a force for good, run by well-meaning people. After WWII, the possibility of tyranny by a government is a remote possibility. More government, by and large, is always good, and the infringement of our liberties to ensure our safety is necessary.
What Stewart, and all progressives, don’t understand is that history provides a literally unbroken record of tyranny.
That we don’t have a stewart-type running gun control segments interviewing Jewish death camp prisoners, slaves sold by their countrymen to Southern cotton farmers, and a resurrected Russian killed by one of Stalin’s death squads would be funny too.
I’d also like to see a skit where they show two news correspondents showing the opening of the DNC convention’s plank committee showing deathmatch 2000 style bouts between the teachers union and abortionists, watermelons (green on the outside, red on the inside) vs. construction workers, and pornographers vs women’s rights groups would also be funny.
They could start the segment after the ritual child sacrifice and the burning of the upside down crucifix with Jesus on it (the D’s voted God out of the plank twice before what was left of the adult leadership could bring the crowd to its senses).
There is a lot funny about progressivism. Gun ban advocates having to listen to their wives being raped by lesbians while on hold with 911 cowering under the bed she’s being raped on.
Alec Baldwin ACTUALLY did a skit showing a pedophile Boy Scout leader on SNL once, so he beat us to that one, not that anyone got the point.
The best part of all, of course is how anti-Semitic progressives actually are. How light skin blacks commonly discriminate against darker skinned blacks.
