The Soviet Union declared a “drought” for something like 60 years. It’s one of the rationalizations to use to explain why their agricultural production never came close to that of the capitalist west.

It is an unfortunate sign of the widespread acceptance of and belief in the necessity of government that we have governors declaring the obvious.

Droughts, floods, fires, etc. The TV and print media breathlessly report that ‘the governor has declared XYZ County a disaster area.’ Really? You mean the people watching their homes burn or get buried under mud don’t know what a disaster looks like without Gov. Swellhead telling them?

Frequently, however, the line is accompanied by ‘making XYZ County eligible for disaster relief funds.’ In other words, it’s all about the money - again. But again politicians want praise for stating the obvious and for making taxpayers’ own money available to them. What saints they are.

The drought is for real. Throughout history, civilizations have fallen when they encountered drought and other conditions that made what they had unsustainable.

I stated this on another thread. While this is going on, CA is close to being majority hispanic. Fires and other conditions are driving what wealth is left out of the state. Meanwhile, DC is running on stupid and might legalize cheap labor invaders staying in the US. If they're legalized, those cheap labor hispanics will be able to legally overwhelm the whole nation when they, too, flee CA.

Yes the dangers brought to bear by the common sense drought in California far exceed those of the Rain drought.

The Guvnor isnt about to address that lil problem.

Well, if he requires every illegal coming over the border to bring a couple of gallons of water with them, there will be no water shortage there in a few weeks.

Free California!!!! Give it back to Mexico!!!

In NC, maybe about 8 or 9 years ago, we had a terrible drought. One county had 90 days of water left and in the same breath, the reporter mentioned that the county’s population consisted of about 60% illegal aliens. Hmmmmm......

How much water did that leave for American residents? Not much and if the illegals had been shown the door, that amount would have increased to over 6 months of water FOR AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO PAID FOR THE INFRASTRUCTURE TO BRING THE WATER TO THEM AS WELL AS THE WATER ITSELF.

It is an unfortunate sign of the widespread acceptance of and belief in the necessity of government that we have governors declaring the obvious.

This is a complex issue, and where governments are involved, Federal, State and/or local, and add homeowner associations, ignorant idiots are ruling our lives mercilessly.

I have been fighting our association (forget moving; not an option) for the better part of a 6 months about a dying lawn that CAN'T thrive under a huge Eucalyptus tree which is on my neighbors yard, 15 inches from my property line. Finally it was topped and trimmed but the problem is sure to repeat in a few years.

With the governor announcing what is probably a multi-year drought, perhaps I need to look into the care and maintenance of Astroturf.
Or look into totally desert plants and landscaping. If the petty homeowner tyrants will allow it. Assuming (rashly, possibly) that they can't fine us for failing to do the impossible.

Blame people like that bastard Donohue who is head of the US Chamber of Commerce. They want cheap, pliable foreign labor and illegals provide it. I also think there is a religious imperative in his case.

Drought? Of common sense? That’s been the case for the last 50 years...

Which, if one is an educated adult, is easily dismissed. Talk physics and chemistry to these adult children, and their eyes glaze over, and they become victims of every huckster, e.g. Al Bore...

I just shake my head at the statement, driest year in California history, since that "history" begins in the mid 18th century. No information citizens don't know the distinction with recorded history.

I quit arguing with those people a long time ago, because it's like dancing with a pig.
It's a waste of time, and it annoys the pig.

The enviros have been yelling “drought” for years in Texas which is the backdrop for more government power grabs. Everytime we have a hard rain or even flooding, the enviros are quick to run to the media and proclaim that we are still under drought conditions.

Back in 2010, we were under such a severe drought that water tables beneath the surface fell causing the ground to sink and make roads very uneven. There is a kernel of truth to it. But the hyperventilating by the enviros will never end because they can institute water restrictions, burn bans, etc. due to drought conditions which they will never let go of.

Californians, beware. But, then again, if you’re still in California after all the other statist crap they’ve pulled, this will be nothing new for you.

Those whose sole source of “data” is their favorite Disinfotainment TV Network are beyond reaching..

I fully expect there to be a run on bottle water by the end of the weekend.

Why not instead of a billion dollars on a bullet train, we build 100 da#% desalinization plants up and down the coast?!
71% of Urf (earth) is covered by water, why can we not ‘harvest’ some of it already ?!

It’s all part and parcel of years of global weather modification that folks continue to ignore.. just a pet theory that the trails in the sky of late don’t refute.

Messing with the jetstreams can be a sobering affair... especially with no ice for your drink.
