It WAS a nice backhand remark!
hes a nationalist that looks out for his own country, i dont see how that makes him a bad person. infact it seems to me hes a good person, he hates obama as well but he had a good relationship with george bush.
I hope so. Wonder why Duck Dynasty premiered at 25% less than last year.
Seriously? Barf.
Don’t think they’ll be rainbow flags, since Russia illegalized them, & the competitors aren’t allowed. Oops: forgot about homos who want to make a homosexual point. Maybe they’ll be arrested (here’s hoping).
Do you have a link on the 35% of pedophiles are homos (I use homo because google tells me it’s an insult).
Another reason to like Putin.
But he still is backing Iran and seems to have never shed his obsession with cutting the U.S. down to size.
Of course, it is tough to tell if he wants to reduce the U.S. role because of the sewer pipe from Hollywood or something else more sinister.
Gorbachev had a good relationship with Ronald Reagan also, but that did not make him a good person; just a realistic person who knew which type of man to respect.
Putin is a bad man, but at least he is a man.
Putin is interesting from a philosophical/theological standpoint. Traditional morals and values, while perhaps difficult to always adhere to, are also very pragmatic. As somebody noted on another thread I read some time ago, STDs could be eliminated within one or two generations of complete monogamy. Traditional nuclear families guard against poverty and delinquency, etc.
In that light, I think Putin, while not a particularly moral person, recognizes the practical values of public virtue and acts in accords with them primarily to advance his own interests, but in doing so, advances many of the interests of his countrymen. all this raises the question, "Are virtuous actions done for the wrong reasons still moral?"
To a (much) lesser degree I noted some of the same phenomenon with Clinton. Clinton was certainly in the presidency to advance his own interests, but there were occasions where as president, his interests and those of the nation overlapped and he was forced to do or say the right thing (i.e., welfare reform, his "sister souljah" moment, etc.). He did so purely for the most cynical, calculated reasons, but they generated positive effects.
