Sybrina Fulton, who's 17-year-old son Trayvon Martin was shot by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in 2012, visited the University of Utah on Thursday to discuss racial profiling. Hundreds attended the Martin Luther King Week event, in which Fulton said that an "upside" to her son's death was the "opportunity to save someone else's child."
"Don’t think for one second racial profiling doesn’t happen. Don’t think for one minute even in your community of Salt Lake City it doesn’t happen," she said. "Racism is still alive. Racial profiling is still alive. Injustice is still alive."
Fulton said that the circumstances of her son's death -- he was wearing a hoodie when Zimmerman shot him -- applied all over the country.
"There should not become a time when we are comfortable with burying our children," Fulton said. "What happened many miles away in Sanford should be uncomfortable for you."
"Is it the hoodie that really made the difference? Or the color of his skin?" she asked. "And if by one second, just by one mere second, we think that it's the color of his skin, then something is wrong with America."
""At the end of the day, it’s not about Trayvon. It’s about the person that felt he was suspicious," she added.
Zimmerman, who was acquitted last year, said he was acting in self-defense when he shot Martin. He recently faced domestic violence charges when his current girlfriend said he had threatened her with a gun and choked her. The Florida state attorney's office decided to drop those charges on her request.

Yeah, there was some racial profiling going on - Trayvon didn’t think George Zimmerman wasn’t “black enough”.
Now, if Zimmerman would have had a sufficiently dark skin, that would have been all right, to knock him to the ground and beat his head up and down on the concrete walkway.
And Trayvon would have been just as dead.
a female prosecutor went for an all-female jury of 6, hoping it would ignore the evidence. She made the case all about Sybrina Fulton’s “feelings” about losing her 6’2”/170 pound “child”-—when all evidence proved her son was the aggressor & proved 99% of Zimmerman’s story as true, with no evidence to cast doubt on the other 1%. female prosecutor lost.
Zimmerman reached for his cell phone. Martin had confronted him & was ready to fight. When Zimmerman reached for his cell phone, Martin took this sudden move to mean that Zimmerman was reaching into his coat for a weapon-—so he attacked Zimmerman savagely.
Zimmerman asked a neighbor for help, but when the neighbor chose not to help, Zimmerman screamed for Help for 40 seconds until finally he had to help himself or be killed—because Martin attacked him for fear there was a gun....then after beating Zimmerman senseless.....he then saw he did have a gun—and he went for the gun.
In Martin’s mind, seeing the gun confirmed his reason for the savage attack....but to Zimmerman’s mind (not too clear during a savage attack)-—Martin had attacked him in retribution for being a snitch....then wouldn’t let him call the cops when he grabbed frightenedly for his cell phone...then when he screamed for help, Martin told him to shut up and covered his mouth when he couldn’t breathe thru his bloodies, broken nose—causing panic.
A neighbor testified she heard a “high, frightened voice” & a “low, mean voice” & if you watch Martin’s 7-11 surveillance video, you can hear he had a low voice....and another neighbor saw Martin beating Zimmerman & said that it WAS ZIMMERMAN asking for help,......so of course it also was Zimmerman screaming for help as caught on police tape recording.
Zimmerman’s flashlight & car keys were found in the grass “at the T” in accordance with his story....and having his flashlight & car keys in his hands at the time he was attacked hardly proves Zimmerman as an “aggressor”. The prosecution could not prove that Zimmerman stalked Martin as prey or followed him but for a few seconds—all while he was talking calmly on the phone with cops....and
the female prosecutor only had the claim that Zimmerman “snapped” as her motive—which was disproven by the fact that he appeared to have “unsnapped” in a hurry after the shooting, did not act defiantly, ask for a lawyer, & submitted to a lie detector test & various cop tricks-—and passed them with flying colors.
I think the entire world has gone nuts. Racial profiling is a tool used to help catch suspects. It is not a licnense to help round up black people ( or white people or hispanic people) for no reason at all and put them in jail.
Some crimes statistically are more likely by committed by certain races. This is not a judgement or a bias. This is a fact!! Most drive-by shootings are committed by black people. Most illegal immigrants are hispanic. Most pedophiles are white men. Most terrorist are Muslim. Most shop-lifters in high-end areas are women. These are not statements made from bias. These are statements made from facts.
So, if you are tasked with decreasing the number of drive-by shootings, the best groups to infiltrate are the blacks gangs....no need to to target the Mong community or Hindu community becasue for the most part these folks won’t be doing drive-by shootings. Get-it?
I think a lot of race-baiters paint a picture of a country full of blond hair blue-eyed police officers pulling over black folks and hitting them with batons. Most police departments do their best to have a police force that most closely represents the community. Most police officers in LA, are hispanic. There are many black police officers in the Bay Area. I have a friend who was a police officer and they bent over backwards so far at her department that ‘Diversity Training’ was a bigger part of the work-week then policing. By the way, my friend was a women police officer if you didn’t notice..
In conclusion, its too bad Trayvon was killed. Heck, its a tragedy. While I have not too much good to say about Zimmerman, it seemed plausible to me that Trayvon was the aggressor when the two made physical contact. The jury thought so too, and with a reasonable doubt in mind, they had to let Zimmerman go.
Perhaps Tayvons mom should have been more concerned with Trayvons truancy, tendency to steal, and drug use (all of which were not relevant to the case, but were in fact true characteristics regarding Trayvon). If so, Trayvon might not have been killed on that night. In fact, if Trayvon’s mom had ‘profiled’ him, she might have known her little boy was most likely headed towards a bad life. But, why should she take personal responsibility when it’s not only easier to blame the ‘man’ and the ‘system’, even the President of the US has her back.
Again, I think the entire world has gone nuts....but, that’s just me.

To find the criminal one must discriminate between possible suspects. To properly discriminate, one must create a profile. The profile must include racial characteristics.
Profiling is the Holy Grail defense because it is effective in eliminating most of the world’s people when discriminating suspects for urban crimes.
You are absolutely correct. The very first slave owner in North America was black (and lived in what is now MA). The very first person to sell a slave in North America was also, you guessed it, black. Also, a lot of slaves in the south were paid for their services because they were skilled (like blacksmiths). These were the ones who purchased their own freedom. What did many of them do after that? You guessed it again: bought slaves. Because of what I said in the post to which you were replying....
But, you see, I am white so I am not allowed to remind people of these facts.
I now profile Blacks because they're the most likely threat to me and mine on a daily basis.
This racial profiling is a joke. In his book, Obama profiles himself....and plays the race card all his life including up to the present.
Correct. In economics this is known as the "broken window fallacy." Fixing a window broken by vandalism doesn't help the overall economy because of the lost opportunity of spending that money on something new.
