MOSCOW — President Vladimir Putin said Friday that gay people have nothing to fear in Russia as long as they leave children alone.
Putin met with a group of volunteers in the Olympic mountain venue at Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi on Friday to wish them success at the Games. During a question-and-answer session, a volunteer asked him about Russia’s attitudes toward gays, a subject that has provoked worldwide controversy, and Putin offered what was apparently meant to be a reassuring answer for visitors to the Olympics.
“One can feel calm and at ease,” he said. “Just leave kids alone, please.”
That phrasing — with its intimation that gays might prey on children — hardly seems the kind of guarantee sought by the United States and other Western governments and human rights activists.
Gay rights have become a contentious issue at the Olympics, which begin Feb. 7, because Russia passed a law last year prohibiting “propaganda of nontraditional sexual practices” among minors. . .

I know one thing, the Russians take their ballet Seriously! There’s a huge scandal at the Bolshoi, after a scorned male dancer hired a thug ex-convict to throw acid in the face of the Bolshoi director because he and his ballerina girlfriend weren’t getting the parts they felt they deserved, and it’s headline news in Russia, with the media taking sides like our media does with politics, and the whole circus.

(If you’re like most men, you don’t know ballet from mazurka, but someday when you’re bored, look up on You Tube Olga Lepeshinskaya, a Stalin-era prima ballerina, in a short ballet called Moszkowsky’s Waltz-amazing, and an example of the athletic, bravura style of Soviet-era Bolshoi. Ie, it’s nothing like your fluttery Giselles or regal Swan Lakes. Lepeshinskaya was Stalin’s favorite ballerina, even over the worshipped Galina Ulanova. I adore her style, and her big personality in such a tiny woman, and a mega-watt smile, all combined with utter physical fearlessness.)

I read this last night and had a crazy dream wherein the USA became the old USSR and we all moved to Russia. Is that where we are headed?
His pronouncement seems so reasonable, why would anyone protest that rational, and I dare say, sensible request? JUST LEAVE THE KIDS ALONE! How is that so difficult to understand?
If the Gay lobby is upset with that reasonable condition, what is/was, their intentions in Russia to begin with????
