Central American immigrants crossing into the United States illegally in South Texas drove an increase in Border Patrol apprehensions last year, according to data released Friday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The Border Patrol made 420,789 apprehensions in the fiscal year that ended in September. That is a 16 percent increase from the previous year but still 42 percent below 2008. As usual, more than 98 percent of those arrests were made on the Southwest border. And nowhere saw more arrests than Texas.

Agents in Texas made 235,567 arrests.

It happened due to Gov. Perry and our Republican majority state house and senate giving up on the feds and allocated millions for more air surveillance and more Texas officers finding and arresting the illegals. Obama can't do squat to stop our state from doing that.

In support of your statement:

Dewhurst stated, “We started appropriating money to plug the holes that exist in the border.
We’ve allocated hundreds of millions, as a state, since 2008.” He added: “Nearly 796 million
of state money, not a dime federal, has been allocated by the State of Texas to plug the holes
in our border. This covers things like over-time for Sheriffs’ deputies, equipment, and
Texas Rangers SWAT teams [referring to the elite Texas Rangers, an arm of the DPS].”

Lt. Governor Dewhurst said the state has purchased a high-altitude spotter plane that can see
six miles into Mexico at night, six new DPS helicopters that can also see at night, and six
armored gunboats to patrol the Rio Grande River.

“For six or seven years, I’ve been calling on our congressional delegation in D.C., we
need to at least double, if not triple, the size of our Border Patrol,” said the Lt. Governor.
“The federal government is not providing the resources. I’ve grown convinced over the last
year that this administration has no intention of securing the border.”

If it wasn't an even greater danger I'd say when we get the military out of the ME put them on the border. However, thanks to Posse Commitatus we can't do that and I think that's right. That would really empower a dictator president IMHO!

Is this surprising? Doesn’t TX have the largest border with Mexico?

************

Texas has the longest border - 1231 out of 1933 miles - followed by Az, NM, CA.

Surprising in that AZ had been the one with the most arrest much of the previous decade.

From the article:
For much of the last decade, Arizona had been the busiest section of the Mexican border.
Agents there last year made 125,942 arrests.

421,000 people isn’t just a problem, it is something out of a horror movie, this is a never ending mass of people, a flood.

Yeah, it’s incredible. I watch the NY local news, I think there are almost no native born Americans in NYC anymore. Regardless of income or race or location every single person I see interviewed seems to be foreign born.

That source of that never ending mass of people seems to be changing with regards to origin
according to article. The numbers caught with Mexican origin are about the same but
there was a 55% increase in those coming from origins south of Mexico.
