City's MLK prayer breakfast turns into Democratic rally (economic justice in Chicago)

The city’s annual prayer breakfast to honor the life of Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday at times turned into an election-year pep rally for Illinois Democrats to push the idea of a minimum wage hike.

**SNIP**

Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and Gov. Pat Quinn weren’t listed on the program, but both took the stage after guests dined on eggs and sliced melon. Both politicians who are seeking new terms this year tied their support for an increase of the minimum wage at the federal and state levels to King’s legacy of fighting for justice.

Quinn said leaders today can’t “forget economic justice,” repeating his call for a $10 an hour state minimum wage standard. The state minimum wage is $8.25 an hour, $1 higher than the federal rate.

Two questions:

(1) Why do we care what they ate?

(2) "Sliced melon": Isn't that racist?

Once again Gov Potato-head proves he's a friggen imbecile.

Raising the minimum wage to $10.00 an hour from $8.25 would just about do it for IL -- every major corporation that's still here now would flee Illinois in a panic before this took effect. The exodus would be massive -- It'd look like Moses leading the Jews out of Egypt, or the over-flowing packed cattle cars of the SS on their way East. Not to mention that a 21.2% increase would create a teeny-weenie problem called INFLATION, and it'd hit everyone overnight; all things being equal, what was $5.00 one day would be $6.06 the next, what was $100.00 would be $121.21.

And for major construction projects..sheesh....fugetaboutit!..the trade unions would rightfully demand THEY get that same $21.2% increase. And those guys do not work cheap, a decade ago they cost (roughly) 'One Dollar per Minute', $60.00/hr with wages & benefits combined. With the raise they'd get $72.60!! And this is for a Journeyman, not for a Foreman or Superintendant. The state couldn't afford to build or fix anything, not that it can now but that's another issue.

Bottom line it'd be the kiss of death for the state. Illinois would be one giant Detroit.

I don't know what union wages are today, higher than the old $60/hr for sure.

More liberals bastardizing everything. Then, just through “justice” after a word and it is the same tired old progrssive crap as usual. Food justice. Light bulb justice. Obamaphone justice. Economic justice. Employ the unemployable in government jobs justice. Anything but equal justice under the law.

There’s no justice like Beuford T Justice.
