Two members of the Senate are pressing for significant changes to how presidents consult with Congress on sending the military into war.
Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Tim Kaine, D-Va., unveiled legislation on Thursday that would repeal the 1973 War Powers Resolution, often ignored by presidents of both parties, and replace it with a new law that requires greater consultation and a congressional vote within 30 days on any significant armed conflict.

How will it be enforced any better than the ‘73 WPR? Our current dicktater laughs at your puny laws, Congress.
This *might* be a good thing. But given that John McCain and Tim (the Eyebrow) Kaine are sponsors, my gut reaction is that it’s a bad bill.
We’ll see.
God, how stupid can these people be? And I’m dead serious. What makes them think that if the law is changed that Obama will give a spit? And, once he ignores it, what makes them think that anyone will do anything about, even in they COULD do anything about it? McCain needs to be put in a rest home and play checkers with the rest of the elderly until he finally fades away. What a waste.
When has John McCain not supported any war, any time, for any reason?
McCain was all for 0bama’s Libyan air war excursion which makes it hard to trust him on this. Not to mention his 1,001 other backstabbings of conservatives and the Constitution.
I don’t think he’d support a war against Red China.
When he’s running for re-election. Just coinkydentally he recently announced that he would run again in 2016 to keep his senate seat.
The Constitution doesn’t give congress this power.
For good reason.
Showboating idiots.
I do think if it wasn't for McCain, Graham and Ayotte the MSM would have gotten away with their lies and Benghazi would be completely dead as an issue.
This effort here is likely a reaction to what Obama did in Libya and Egypt (no congressional approval). This is a good thing.
McCain is a piece of garbage who was cheer leading to get involved in Libya for no apparent reason in the first place. He couldn’t wait to get to Syria and kiss some terrorist ass.
He’s just as responsible for the mideast mess as Obama is.
No President, regardless of Party, should have the “war powers” the Presidency has now. None. Wanna go into Afghanistan or Iraq? Man up and declare war. This has been an absurdity since the 50s. It is CLEAR “Commander in Chief” means AFTER declaration of war you run the show.
Enforce the damn Constitution.
Presidents have been fighting undeclared wars since way before the 1950s, starting with John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
The situation we have now is that a president rushes troops into a war and then goes to congress with the threat of a political attack for not supporting the troops.
Personally I think we need some Reaganesque restraint. He was probably the most anti war president of the past 100 years.
Plus....What makes McPain and his Dem towel boy think they have any better qualifications about doing the work of men?
