I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. When you decide to become a “fee for service” business - you have to take on all comers.

“take on ALL comers”?

So if the KKK came in and wanted a cake that said “We Should All Hate N****RS, the bakery would have to make it for them?

Part of the problem is the need for the Christian bakers to announce why they won’t do it.

They need to have a form that needs to be filled out. With the occasion, names of the people if its a wedding, other particulars. And at the bottom a statement that the form is binding.

So the names can’t be changed later.

When someone comes in they are given the form to fill out and told to place it in a basket and someone will contact them soon as to whether the bakery is able to comply, depending on their bookings.

You weed out the ones you don’t want to do by calling and saying you are booked up and unable to provide the service, and maybe even give them a name of a different bakery that might be able to accommodate them.

Stop giving them ammunition.
