March for Life expands to new cause: Obamacare
Washington Times ^ | 1/21/14 | Meredith Somers

When the March for Life first stepped off in 1973 in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s legalization of abortion, Dr. Jack Kevorkian had not begun to advertise “death counseling,” capital punishment had been suspended and the Affordable Care Act was decades from being signed....

The 41st annual march Wednesday will feature lawyer Susan Wills, assistant director for education and outreach for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, discussing the Affordable Care Act and its mandate requiring large employers to insure birth control as part of their health care plans, including “morning after” pills that some religious organizations equate to abortion.

“Certain groups are being forced to carry these life-destructive drugs and devices in the name of health, and with no recourse,” said Jeanne Monahan, president of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “So that is a huge problem. That one development is very pressing in our news today.”

And Democrats were saddened.

The official purpose of the March for Life since its beginning was to lobby Congress to pass the “Paramount Human Life Amendment.”

Congress has always had the power to remove abortion from the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, by a simple majority vote. Unfortunately, no one has ever organized an effort to hold Congress’s feet to the fire on this. It never became and issue during the entire time the Repubs controlled both houses and the White House.

Also unfortunately, the pro-life movement never focused on those who were called on by the Supreme Court to OBEY its abortion decisions, the governors.

The forked-tongue USCCB supported Obamacare wholeheartedly.

They fought hard to get it passed.
Then they read it - and found the part about abortions and contraception.

Too late, bishops. All those lay staff people you hired from the Democratic Party snookered you using the “social justice” charade.

Pray that God will forgive you for you naiveté and willful ignorance that now contravenes Church teaching.

I've been on a Washington Right to Life March. I've gone to RTL rallies. I've picketed abortion mills. My son and my grandson (in different cities) are organizing busloads of people to go to this year's RTL March. My daughter-in-law gets her religion class students to attend every year.

And to what effect? All that effort, I'm convinced, is nothing but "feel good" effort. It has accomplished nothing. It hardly even gets noticed in the media. The Rose Bowl parade, with fewer people watching, gets greater coverage than the annual RTL March in Washington. Having all those people parade through Washington, DC, has no effect whatsoever on either the Supreme Court or Congress. What's even worse, it's trapped us into a dead end. If we ever say, this isn't working, and quit, it will be taken by the anti-life side as a defeat for us.

I'm not being defeatist. We need to end abortion, assisted suicide, and all the other anti-life activities going on. But let's recognize that we need to try something else. Marches, rallies, and even abortion-mill pickets are a low-gain and labor-intensive way of getting to our goal. It's time to try some other things. I'm open to suggestions.

Joe, I only attend my local rally in Hartford, which is SAT 1/25. At least I get to meet local people ... which is important in trying to develop local activities.

yes, going to DC only lets me meet folks from North Carolina and Indiana.

Frankly, on the east coast, we are suffering from something above and beyond the pro-abort agenda. Almost everyone ... has checked out when it comes to “self-government”. And until that changes, the special interest groups cannot be challenged. They’ve given up their civic duties.

In CT, 6 out 7 people who are in church on Sunday morning are not regular voters. So they need a sermon on civics and the neglect of civic duties as much as a pro-life message. (Some people become pro-life and their response is to give up voting!)

And, no, I am not the guest preacher.

**The forked-tongue USCCB supported Obamacare wholeheartedly.**

No they didn’t. Do you want my long list of links that prove otherwise?

Nice try Salvation, but you are dead wrong. The USCCB wholeheartedly supported Obamacare. Their objections were only to the abortion and contraception paragraphs. Your supposed long list of rebuttals is trumped by this letter from the USCCB itself.
