The rules are the same here (Victoria B.C.). In recent years, there have been several instances of illegal tree cutting, and tree-poisoning (on other people’s property) by view-seeking neighbours. Having a clear view of the ocean adds tens of thousands of dollars to the property value. Perhaps your neighbours would make you an offer.
Larry Ellison poisoned a neighbors trees a few years ago for the view. Also, Dan Snyder, the owner of the Redskins, got a ‘special’ permit to cut down trees that were on Park property so he could get a better view of the Potomac River.
