Fox News has a “crumbling foundation”: Roger Ailes’ biographer talks to Salon

Gabriel Sherman’s exhaustive, inflammatory biography of Fox News chairman Roger Ailes, released days ago by Random House, has already prompted network pushback. “While we have not read the book,” a Fox News spokesperson told the New York Times, “the only reality here is that Gabe was not provided any direct access to Roger Ailes and the book was never fact-checked with Fox News.” Sherman’s 538-page tome, “The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News – and Divided a Country,” is the product of three years of work and hundreds of interviews. It paints Ailes as a transformative figure in American media and politics – and includes alleged episodes of violence, paranoia, bigotry and sexual harassment.

Sherman, a contributing editor at New York magazine, spoke with Salon Friday about Ailes’ power, his myth-making about his own biography, and Fox’s future. “He is presiding over an empire that has a crumbling foundation,” said Sherman. A condensed and edited version of our conversation follows.

You write that Ailes has been “essentially running the Republican Party …” Why Ailes and not, say, Mitch McConnell, or Jim DeMint, or Rush Limbaugh, or Rubert Murdoch?

I think Ailes has surpassed the Republican Party. Fox is driving the set of stories and the mission in a way that – it’s not that Ailes is doing it to help the Republican Party, Ailes has his own agenda. He is bigger than the Republican Party. He has a meeting, which I report on in the book, and he expresses disdain for the Republican Party — he jokes at one point that the GOP couldn’t organize a one-car funeral. So you know, to your question, why Ailes and not somebody else....

It’s not nice to make fun of a man’s lack of a masculine appearance, so I won’t say anything.

Isn’t ‘Jennifer’ an unusual name for a man?

From Alinsky's Rules For Radicals:
RULE 12: "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

(This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

“The Divided Country” has been created by policies devised by this president who was aided by media accomplices such as Salon “Where The Efeete Meet To Bleat” .

Divided Country began in full force when the President of the United States decided to create blacks as victims of a “racist society” through his use of “The Bully Pulpit”.

This occured when the president who has in his command the ability to gather full facts before uttering a word used an episode in Florida where a black hispanic working as a security guard with a Jewish name. Was forced to shoot his black teenage attacker but knowingly portrayed his attacker as a “victim”.

The guard became a white stalker killer who hated blacks and in cold blood murdered a black teenager wandering in his neighborhood.

When actually behind his back after discontinuing an unchallanged surveilance the guard was attacked. Knocked to the ground and was being senselessly beaten managed to get to his gun and kill his attacker with one shot.

To this day this President nor any of his socialist media prpagandists which in includes the print and visual media serving the black community have allowed this narrative to continue despite the subsequent killings of other races including whites and hispanics by members of the black community influenced by their inflamatory rhetoric.

“Random House actually believes somebody will buy this book?”

Clearly, RH has an agenda here, because this book will end up piled in heaps in Barnes and Noble bargain book bins (priced at $2.99) if they printed more than a few 100 of them. After a couple of weeks in the bargain bins, they’ll go on the free pile on the sidewalk in front of the stores. Then B & H will have to pay to have them hauled off.

He’s got one thing right-the Fox demographic is graying. Young people don’t get their news from TV, and they don’t listen to talk radio-or radio of any kind for that matter. The Left dominates social media. Conservatives must get their message across in the formats that young people pay attention to.
