Yes and we worked shoveling snow to make money and collected and turned in glass soda bottles for deposit money so we could buy Revell and Aurora plastic model plane and boat kits and the more guns they had the better.
AND, with the cold ‘40s and ‘50s winters, women and little girls STILL wore dresses/skirts!!! A proper lady would never have worn trousers (well, ‘cept for Ms. K. Hepburn).
