Vladimir Putin has insisted he is 'not prejudiced in any way', and that he has some gay friends, amid an outcry against Russia's laws against gay 'propaganda'.
He also made efforts to praise the 'personal achievements' of gay celebrities such as Elton John, whom he called 'extraordinary'.
But the Russian leader also linked gay people to paedophiles, who are covered jointly in the controversial propaganda law, ahead of the Sochi Winter Olympics, which start next month.
Despite reassuring visitors the laws present 'no danger' to them, the Russian leader still suggested there was a need to 'clean up' homosexuality in Russian order to drive up the country's birth rate, and defended the country's right to pass such a law.
In an interview broadcast amid international outrage ahead of the Sochi Winter Olympics, he said: 'Read our law carefully – it’s called "a ban on the propaganda of paedophilia and homosexuality". But this is nothing to do with persecuting invididuals for their sexual orientation.'
'It seems to me that the law we adopted doesn’t harm anybody. What’s more, homosexual people can’t feel inferior here because there is no professional career or social discrimination against them.
'When they achieve great success [they are honoured] – for example Elton John is a extraordinary person, a distinguished musician, and millions of our people sincerely love him, regardless of his sexual orientation.'
In a segment later broadcast on the BBC's Andrew Marr show, the president dodged a question on whether gay people are born or made.
But he did tell Andrew Marr: 'If you want my personal attitude, I would tell you that I don’t care about a person’s sexual orientation.
'I myself know some people who are gay – we are on friendly terms. I am not prejudiced in any way.'

Clearly, the “recent” propaganda “push” from ABCNNBCBS about the hazards of Muslim terrorists against Putin (the Russian Olympics) start, stop, and end with the administration obsession with homosexual agenda worldwide. Putin does not “like” nor tolerate homosexuals, so Putin is now an enemy to be attacked in all ways economic, political, and military.
To illustrate, were not almost all of the US-”selected” former Olympians to Russia homosexual or lesbian?
Putin says millions of Russians sincerely love the extraordinary and distinguished Sir Elton. Putin clearly does not want to alienate Sir Elton’s millions of Russian admirers.

I like Elton John too, and I was 17 years old when I found out he was gay. And I didn’t care. His lyrics and piano playing are still profound and awe-inspiring, and he is still one of the greatest musical artists of the 20th century. No matter what his sexual orientation is, Elton John is still a Clear Spirit. Go to YouTube and listen to “I’m Still Standing”. It’s a good, hard song, and you can tell that he put his heart and soul into it.
I am sure that Elton John is proud!
I feel the same way about artists I grew up on after I found they were gay - I never cared and left it up to them to decide if they want to make a colossal deal out of it. For me, Rob Halford of Judas Priest was a case in point - and thank G-d he decided not to go the Dan Savage or Ellen Degeneres route and make it his entire identity.

You have to wonder what Michelle thinks about the gay allegations. I mean you hear rumors once or twice you wonder....but thousands of times? Surely she has to know sonething. There were rumors about them getting a divorce at one time. Maybe she caught him snuggling up to Reggie in Hawaii...
