Both sets of my grandparents never became citizens. They came here circa 1915.

So what was their legal status?

All the children (15 in all) were born here. They came to work....and they did.

All the children born here are automatically US citizens thru birthright citizenship. They are native born. What is your point and how is it relevant to what I wrote in my post #18?

Just that you don't have to be a citizen to live within the United States and contribute to the whole.

For the record, 9 sons from the two families served in WWII.
