The GOP’s Data Surge (or is it ORCA 2.0?)
National Review ^ | 1/16/14 | Eliana Johnson

Republican strategists work to improve data analytics in advance of the midterm elections.

or two days last week, Republican strategists, political consultants, and digital gurus convened in a sleek, wood-paneled conference room on the third floor of New York City’s Standard hotel. Their mission: to reverse the fortunes of the Republican party by leveraging voter data, technology, and public opinion to win elections.

More than a year removed from an election year in which Democrats used data to gain insights that allowed them to swing a handful of races, including at the top of the ticket, those gathered were determined that the GOP do better in this year’s midterm elections. Among the attendees: National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Rob Collins; Alex Lundry, the Romney campaign’s director of data science; GOP pollster Kristin Soltis Anderson; Johnny DeStefano, a former aide to John Boehner, now serving as the president of Data Trust, the organization providing a warehouse for Republicans’ voter files; and representatives from Google, Facebook, and AOL.

Top party officials have readily admitted that the GOP has work to do in the realm of data collection and digital targeting.

Given the contempt the GOP-e holds for grassroots conservatives, it seems this is just another scheme to fleece GOP donors rather than win elections.

I'm sure Reince Priebus and Karl Rove crapped their pants when the Google and Facebook reps told them to be successful with this this type of approach, the GOP must motivate the grassroots, rather than pander to independents.

We need better, or more truthful, polling also. Last election’s polling was terrible.

To heck with big data and analytics. First they must answer two key questions:
1) Are we merely Democrat Lite? Or are we a serious opposition party dedicated to freedom, liberty and equality of opportunity?
2) Who is the real enemy? Democrats? Or Tea Party?

Unless the GOP-E decides to run their elections on the principles of the base, they are toast.

No amount of technical wizardry is going to save their sorry asses without policies and execution against those policies based in conservative principles.

That means No Amnesty, No Abortion, No Gay Agenda, Limited Government.

Dear republicrat party:

Here are some “data” for you. I’ve included the definitions of some words for which you may have forgotten the meanings:

1) SMALLER government.*

2) FEWER government agencies**

3) LOWER taxes.***

*smaller: adj. - of limited size; of comparatively restricted dimensions

**fewer: adj. - amounting to or consisting of a smaller number

***lower: adj. - reduced in amount or value

They can update their software all they want. If they shed their principles and anger their base, they will lose. “Big time”, as Dick Cheney would say.
