A wave of protests against the private buses that ferry employees of Apple, Google, Facebook and other companies to their campuses in Silicon Valley culminated Tuesday in a public meeting of San Francisco’s Municipal Transportation Agency. After entertaining public comments, the MTA officials voted to enact a pilot program whereby the companies will pay $1 each time one of their vehicles uses a public transit stop to pick up or drop off workers

Clean out the bums? Nope.

A bum has a right to sleep on your steps but a business can’t use a bus stop.
They should be charged a “progressive fee” per mile that increases with the number of passengers on the bus at the company (@ arrival and departure).
So take the (passenger count * miles in the route) * fee) with the fee increasing 10% for every x number of passengers. Add a Per bus fee (above and beyond the state registration fees) and stipulate that these companies will make the buses available on the weekends to provide FREE rides to low income people. Oh, and the drivers must be unionized.
(Is that sufficiently confusing?)
These companies LOVE liberal causes, they should be forced to live by them.
I would have normally been outraged at the idea that Government is going to limit a private company’s ability to provide this service to their employee’s. But hey we are all Socialists now!

That was probably the worst written article I’ve ever read in Forbes.
What does this mean?

Nor will it raise meaningful revenues for the city, which says it expects to take in about $1.5 billion over 18 months.”
Do you think that’s a typo? How is 1.5 BILLION dollars not “meaningful”? And I can’t do the math, but it seems like you’re not getting to 1.5 billion in 18 months based on collecting $150K from each Company involved.
And this article does not address at all the antagonism from the public about these buses. Making them pay to use the bus stops isn’t going to change that, I don’t think.
