Poland wants to join the eurozone because it is the political heart of the European Union, its foreign minister, Radek Sikorski, has said, with the country looking to enter the single currency by 2020.

“In every annual speech to parliament I say that, in my judgment as foreign minister, we should join. I am leader of this process because, politically, we want to be inside,” Sikorski told a group of journalists in Brussels on Monday (20 January).

“Our judgment is that in the next decade, the real European Union will be inside the eurozone. And we want to be part of that.”

He acknowledged that the political, financial and economic case for joining the single currency will have to be made to the Polish people, whose support for the move has slumped from a high of 80 percent five years ago, at the outset of the economic crisis, to 30 percent today. …

I’m sure some said the same about the Third Reich and the Soviet Union. Shame on this man.

Poles would be wise to remember how the Brits and French screwed them over back in ‘39 and ‘45.

Poland gets a lot of money from the EU; last I recall, something on the order of several billion Euro per annum.

Much like the Czech Republic; they’re getting a ton of money from the EU. I think this year (2014) the eastern region will be getting something like €2 billion for various projects.

He’s right that EA is the real EU these days but that should be the major reason NOT to join it.

As in all of such master-slave relations, “master” claims how cool it is to be in his slavery. For example, Gerries invested a lot in “renewables”, that's why EU is obsessed so much with all that CO2 madness, there's the real business, force other to buy technology your companies created and make much more money than you pay into it.

Soviets also claimed that they were subsidizing Warsaw Pact countries.
