A candidate for Orlando City Council has a rap sheet that includes 21 arrests, records show.
Regina Hill, 48, said she has no plans to drop her political campaign for a council seat, despite a history of arrests for drug offenses, multiple DUIs and other charges. In fact, she said her checkered past makes her more qualified to represent District 5, which still struggles with high levels of crime, unemployment and homelessness.

Arrests or convictions? Two entirely different things. And if convictions, misdemeanors or felonies?

Usually...the District 5 council person goes to jail while in office...not before in office
This gal can say “Been there, done that”

Now I’m not one to suggest reading the article so please don’t take this the wrong way. But that info is in the second sentence.

It says “arrests” in the second sentence, does it not?

I don’t think she should drop out. Let the voters decide. Would I vote for her? Well it would depend on if she was convicted of anything and what those convictions were. She also can say “that 21 arrests do not disqualify me from holding office” all day long. It is not her decision but the voters.

You or I could be arrested for multiple crimes, doesn’t mean we were convicted. See “George Zimmerman” as Exhibit A for the difference.

How many arrests do her constituents have? This may be an enhancement.

I broke down and read the article. There are multiple convictions on her record. She managed to get her voting rights restored and has “changed”.

Arrests or convictions? 21 arrests. I'm sure she was completely innocent in every case.

The voters will decide which is the best way to go here.

I didn’t say that. Here in the United States, we don’t conflate arrests with convictions, or at least, we’re not supposed to. Right?

Still, maybe it’s just me, but I’m not voting for someone who has 21 arrests for drugs and DUI.

I would probably not vote for her, either. That wasn’t my point.

Well of course they will, and she will be elected. And her first order of business will be to crack down on that nasty police department and the officers who arrested her umpteen times.
