House Conservatives Plot Takedown of GOP Leaders' Amnesty Plans
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | January 23, 2014 | Matthew Boyle

As House Republican leaders prepare an immigration proposal that could go much further towards amnesty than their prior public stances, conservative lawmakers are quietly plotting to push back. Aides from over a dozen House offices secretly convened today on the Senate side of the Capitol at a meeting organized by Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, a top immigration hawk who has recently involved himself more aggressively in the affairs of the lower chamber.

“Over here in the Senate working for Senator Sessions, we learned a lot last year about the strategies employed by the powerful forces pushing bad immigration policies--and how to counter them,” reads a copy of the invitation to the meeting provided to Breitbart News by a House staffer.

Officials close to the matter say conservative critics of Speaker John Boehner's planned immigration push are working to issue their own rival immigration principles to vie with the document Boehner is drafting.

“There is definitely a growing mood of confusion and aggravation among conservatives in the House over the immigration issue right now,” one House GOP aide said in an email to Breitbart News, adding that many on the right find the “political logic” of riling up the party's base so close to a low-turnout midterm election baffling.

“Do we really want to just give up the midterms like this?” the aide asked.

The building backlash could create for a tumultuous three-day retreat next week as Republicans gather in Maryland to plan the party's future. Upping the pressure, a key outside conservative today requested access to the retreat to brief lawmakers on the issue.

Top GOP officials, meanwhile, are becoming bolder in their embrace of immigration reform....

I envy you knowing Sessions. He is a kind man and i believe academically very smart, able to dice up a bill into coherency, lay open the motivations behind the dang thing and give a crystal clear account of the outcomes.

ALL this without calling names, or going ballistic. An amazing gentleman, who would make a brilliant president.

Thx, CG.

If all our senators and representatives were like Jeff, we wouldn’t be in this mess. He is smart, kind, and tough.

Sadly, the machine quashes gentlemen and scholars of the old school. I believe the civil tone and sharp intellect of Cruz is somewhat similar, though Cruz has a willingness to flare his attributes on a more politic stage, which naturally draws more fire. What do you think?

Sessions keeps his nose down and strictly on the business at hand popping up in formal channels only, like floor debate and in committee, quite armed and ready. This meeting with House staffers is definitly outside the box for this brilliant statesman.

This is something Cruz has done, but didn’t this time, which is kind of curious. It could mean many things, but one is that Jeff is low key with brains and may not draw the media fire, which distracts from a plan for action.

Just pondering here, because this could be big. Or, not.

Cruz is first class. Scares the dems and the rinos. I like his style his brains and his wit. I think Ted will help more conservative old school Republicans break rank from the rinos. I’ll stand with Ted all the way. My other senator Shelby  is a little right of the rinos but not anywhere near as solid as Sessions. We will survive this but recovery will take a long time.

You are very optimistic and I am an awful cynic.

To me it almost seems there was some kind of Rohrsbacher Test imposed on Americans, similar to Pavlov’s dogs, that signaled to the Marxists that 2008 was the time to strike, that the American voter was finally shaped and dumbed down enough to accept the imposition of “fundamental change” to America and every single institution—to collapse, basically.

I certainly hope you are right and recovery is even possible at this hour. Thx, CG.

I am an optimist because I believe in God, I believe in the American People, and I believe in me. I wish Boehner and McConnell had the fortitude to slow the damage but they have less resolve than my 5 grandchildren, (all of them are pre-schoolers), but already smarter than a RINO or a DEM. Be strong and realistic and be positive. Don’t give up and don’t be a one issue voter in the mid-terms or the national elections. Vote for the best candidate no matter the party, but don’t stay home. Burn up the phone lines, donate what you can to any candidates you like even if you can’t vote for them because they are running for congress in another state. Do what you have to do to get the good guys elected. I donated more to out of state candidates in 2012, than I did to in state candidates. I did not donate to Romney because he was weak. But I did vote for him. I never stay home because it is my responsibility to vote or to shutup. I do not shut up. It’s 17.4 degrees in central Alabama.

I need some global warming. I feel like I am back at McConnell AFB in the early 70s.
