Ugly words between relatives of an 8-year-old upstate New York boy who died last weekend trying to save his family are marring an outpouring of hometown sympathy -- and financial support.

“My intention was to pay for the memorial service,” said Theresa Fiorica, 28, a friend and neighbor of Tyler’s mother, Crystal Vrooman, whose initial goal was to raise $5,000 to cover the boy’s funeral expenses. “I didn’t think that it was going to go as far and as big as it did.”

“My son just got lost in a huge tragedy,” Vrooman told FoxNews.com. “Do you think I want to move into a trailer? I want a nice house [as] I have always been telling the kids, and to give my kids a great school district.”
But other members of the splintered family, including Vrooman’s ex-boyfriend and Tyler’s father, Jason Doohan, say they don’t trust Vrooman to do the right thing.
“My actual fear is that she is not going to use the money properly,” Doohan said. “My son is the greatest kid I’ve ever known. Use [the money] the right way, on what Tyler would want it to be spent on.”
Joseph Breyette, 43, the uncle of Tyler who is serving as a spokesman for the family members saved by the boy, said Vrooman has substance abuse problems -- problems she said she conquered “years ago.”

Kids used to have families. Now they have this sort of mess. This very good child deserved better.

Some people think a lawsuit from getting hit by a car is their jackpot; she thinks her son's death is her winning lottery ticket. Is there no money from a fire insurance policy?
I notice that the mother and father have different last names of course.....never married or divorced.

I don't care HOW screwed up my life may be / has been, nor what kind of pseudo thoughts I may have had regarding my lot in life because of the mess I was ...
I think once the reality of what my son had done and the price he paid sunk in, I'd be one very repentent person and actually DO what I had alway said I would do .. yet I never really intended to do it ... then.
Only the recipient of GOD'S Grace can understand what I just said.
You should see my middle class family. Nasty, greedy people- forced my dad to change the will & life insurance policy when he was literally days from death.
I can't tell you how many times I've been around people at the home following a funeral, walking around the house with a roll of masking tape, putting their names on furniture and et cetera's.
Was like that when My father died....and when my Grandfather died.
Like a bunch of sharks.
Sounds like that little boy was more adult than the whole bunch. May he RIP.
She did not live in the house that burned. I think three died in the fire, seems like any money should first be used to give them decent funerals, then maybe memorial fund to honor the little boy with a scholarship or garden in his memory, along that line.
What kids? She has others ? What 'relatives' do they live with ?
There were NINE people living in a dilapidated TRAILER that had already been condemned once. Think about this... Tyler Doohan CHOSE to go stay in a SMALL, RUNDOWN TRAILER with EIGHT other people rather than stay with his MOM.
And if 0bama had a son, it sure wouldn’t be the hero like Tyler.

Obviously not. But it was OK for your son to live there with EIGHT other people, some who were not even related to him.
What a tragedy! I don’t mean this in a callous way, but maybe he truly IS in a better place. He may have eventually been corrupted by this family.
