This is a heartbreaking case. Given the condition of the mother, I do not think the baby is alive. I can see holding on until the child could safely be delivered by C-section, but that could have been done earlier.

Is it known if the baby is alive and growing?

“Must have found a leftist Austin judge.”

Does Austin have any other kind?

At the link there is another link. Apparently the child has hydrocephalus and deformed lower extremities.

I certainly expect critcism for this. but it is my understanding that any quality of life for the baby was indeed marginal and the Texas law was hardly absolute with respect to circumstances such as this one.

According to the link, the baby has brain and heart damage among other things and the doctors believe it is not viable.

Sometimes, mans’ wishes try to get in the way of God's plans. I see that the mother had a pulmonary embolism when she was approximately 3.5 mos pregnant. Has anyone thought that maybe God was making that call? And then Man, in his infinite (not) wisdom, decided to try and overrule God?

To keep a woman's body alive solely to serve as an incubator is, in my opinion, wrong. If God wanted the woman and her child to survive, he would have arranged that. In this case, I'm thinkin’ God had other plans.

Please note: this comes from a pro-life Catholic.

I am for keeping the woman on life support until the baby is born.

Regardless of what the childs outcome may or may not be, I agree with the law that over rides the family wishes for the sake of the unborn.

There were questions raised about the baby’s development. Certainly s/he is alive and growing. The questions are about development retardation, etc.

There are, however, families who have offered to adopt the baby regardless of physical or mental issues that might have arisen under these circumstances.

This is heart breaking. I wouldn’t want to be in the fathers or the judges shoes when judgment time comes.

Well if it's going to die anyway, why would hey have to kill it?

Hydrocephalus can be addressed medically, and so can problems with the legs and feet. Dead is just dead.

So much so that I understand the sex was almost impossible to tell.

I absolutely don’t understand the father, unless he just didn’t want the baby to begin with. It seems to me from my limited perspective, a father would want his child conceived by him and his beloved wife.

The judge probably took the out of going with the wishes of the patient’s next of kin.(mother in this case, not even recognizing the baby)

The headline is there but I'm getting a page not found. Here's another link if anyone needs it - http://www.kvue.com/news/national/241770051.html?ref=next

I totally agree the woman is dead and should be taken off the machine but I do have one question, just how does Judge R. H. Wallace Jr. propose to keep the baby alive? Oh, never mind, it's not a real live human being but merely a burdensome blob of cells. Here's what 14-15 weeks is -

BTW, he's one of Perry's appointments - http://tcgop.org/gov-perry-appoints-wallace-as-judge-of-the-96th-district-court/.

Tests have shown that the fetus is abnormal, with water on the brain being only one of the issues. A doctor, in the local news story link posted above, states that the fetus is not viable.

The husband and wife had talked about neither one wanting to live in a vegetative state. At what point does what the hospital thinks trump what the next of kin, the husband and father, knows what the patient wants? Both husband and wife were paramedics, so I'm sure they saw a fair share of death. That is likely what prompted their discussion.

The child deserves a chance at life. The judge’s decision is wrong. Wait just a little time and see how the child makes out. I hope the hospital appeals this bum’s decision.
