UPDATE: The filmmaker behind "2016: Obama's America" was briefly handcuffed during his arraignment in New York on charges he violated campaign finance laws in 2012. D’Souza’s bail was set at $500,000 and he was released after promising that one financially responsible person would sign “a personal recognizance bond” within a week.

If there were any honesty in the mainstream media, they would be ripping Team Obama for this crap.

If there was a drop of honor in the Gelded Old Party, they would be investigating this latest assault on our nation and holding hearings with teeth.

Amazing that a conservative journalist who is very critical of Obama is apparently the only one who has ever been charged with campaign finance malfeasance. Amazing it is.

$500,000 bail for a crime involving $20,000 pass through funds?

I smell overkill here.

I didnt re-elect them, damnit.
But it must be revenge. In their minds whatever D’Souza accomplished with 2016 is in the past. Obama can’t run again.
It sounds like they have the didnt-know-any-better defense, which doesn’t make them look terribly smart. But these campaign finance laws are tricky. I always tell people to remember that the next time some politician yells for more campaign finance reform. This is where it leads.
I was wondering if he would actually spend any time in jail and hoping he wouldn’t.
The $500,000 figure reminds me of that guy who raped me in 1990. That’s what his bail was. Of course he had no assets, no friends or family, so sat in jail

What's really annoying is that D'Souza is in California and that this was a seat in NY that was impossible for her to win!

Seems his actions were symbolic or possibly romantic because there could be no other reason to throw that much money away.

Doesn't matter, though. He's a target. And the Democrats hold all the key positions in law.

I disagree.

He has spent his entire career working for political organizations.

The idea that he was not familiar with this law is not serious.

More important, he may have induced 4 more people, probably friends, to break the law.

Or, those 4 people may have induced him.

I mean, how did D’Souza and the other 4 rationalize this bizarre donation procedure unless they knew it was illegal?

What explanation did D’Souza make to these people when he reimbursed them for the contributions they made?

If it wasn't against the law, why go to all this trouble?

These straw donor laws are stupid. People should be allowed to contribute as much as they want without being forced to conceal their donation.

Until then the easiest way for any candidate to acquire campaign funds is to simply write a book.

D'Sousa could have bought $20,000 worth of Wendy Longs' book had she written one.

They are worried about 20,000 dollars? Before Obama leaves office we will be 20 trillion in debt.

Politically motivated persecution. There’s a lot of this going around as the Dems hope the appearance of corruption in conservatives will offset their dismal performance over the past five years. Democrats control the law and courts and we are seeing abusive behavior against perceived enemies as well as an erosion of personal rights.

How about DOJ-Occupied reservoir dog holder and his NSA? I'm surprised you even ask that. There is not one iota of doubt about it. With their nifty new snooping devices and fundamentally transformed gestapo power grab and their "enemies' list", obama/holder are prowling around into any/every political opponents' lives that their psychopathic spiteful plagued minds desires, for revenge and malice.

$500,000?! Some murderers don’t have bail that high.

Consider Justin Beiber; a 19-year-old punk high on marijuana, pills and alcohol while racing through the streets in a rented high performance car risking the lives of all around him in the process. And his bail was only $2500.

So they gave him the choice of donating $500,000 to the Democrat Party or stay in jail.
