ATLANTA, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Beverage giant Coca-Cola said that laptops that were stolen and retrieved included personal data on 74,000 employees and business associates.

It sounds to me as if the stolen lap tops contained sensitive HR and payroll information.
It’s crazy that this information wasn’t encrypted or that the laptops themselves didn’t require a strong password in order just to start.
I’m in HR/payroll and sometimes take my work laptop home with me to work over the weekend or on bad weather days or days I need to work from home. But I have to authenticate myself at boot up and then log into the secure encrypted VPN network with a separate password, then I have a separate password to get into ADP. No sensitive data is ever stored on the computer’s local hard drive, none, nada, never. In fact I don’t think I even can save any data to the C drive, IT has it locked down. Any and all data files are on the network on secure drives that only certain people have access to (hopefully).
This sounded to me too like a massive violation of the most basic security policies any large corporation would take regarding highly sensitive personnel records. Someone high up is in serious trouble.

And important information is on a laptop because.......???????
I believe that Pepsi was behind this dastardly act!
They may have been crazy but the company I was with for many years had a separate room for anything with a dollar sign on it! No wireless, no internet, no USB on the desktops...
The Regime will gather data on us from whatever sources it can.
A few years ago a Coke Employee was fired and he took the recipe to Pepsi. Pepsi refused to take them and called the Police.
Pepsi and Coke know each others secrets. What good would it do to steal them?
