Noonan: The Sleepiness of a Hollow Legend (Pres. Sham-Wow SOU speech)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 1-24-14 | Peggy Noonan

Because when I imagine Barack Obama's State of the Union, I see a handsome, dignified man standing at the podium and behind him Joe Biden, sleeping. And next to him John Boehner, snoring. And arrayed before the president the members, napping.

No one's really listening to the president now. He has been for five years a nonstop windup talk machine. Most of it has been facile, bland, the same rounded words and rounded sentiments, the same soft accusations and excuses. I see him enjoying the sound of his voice as the network newsman leans forward eagerly, intently, nodding at the pearls, enacting interest, for this is the president and he is the anchorman and surely something important is being said with two such important men engaged.

Posted @ 6:56.59, dissing posts before even Evelyn Wood could have read it in its entirety from the People magazine crowd that sees only personalities and can’t comprehend ideas.

Exactly. You were ALL in for this utter fraud, to the point of willful disregard of the obvious, Noonan.

I can’t imagine listening to one minute of any Obama speech.

Not that what he says is true or untrue, but rather that it is so completely unhinged from truth as to have no meaning. He reads the teleprompter. He neither believes what he says nor does he disbelieve it. Believing or disbelieving is irrelevant, his words are only intended to fill a space.

The press will then run with it, to tell me what I am supposed to think about it. But they neither believe nor disbelieve. The electronic word generator feeds the teleprompter which feeds the electronic propaganda generator, and no one believes or disbelieves, because no one is listening. They get their cues as to what they are supposed to think and say about it, but they are not required to believe or even think about it too closely. Just parrot it. Which is what Obama is doing, and the press, and the party faithful, round and round and back again.

Its all just the humming of the hive.

Either Zero got a pinch hitter for the SOU or dearest Peg got a vivid imagination.

There’s really nothing Noonan can do to rehabilitate herself with conservatives. A former Reagan star-writer who went gaga over the illegal, ilicit Fraud simply cannot hope to regain her place. She’s still a great wordsmith (IMO) but she will never have the audience of yore.

Well written, and I’m getting a kick out of reading the comments whining about Peggy.

We comprehend ideas very well. What we have a problem comprehending is people who refuse to see the obvious, willfully disregard warning signs and won’t pursue highly questionable facts about a candidate. What she says now is really of little interest to me, as the damage is done.

I was on to her during the Reagan funeral, when all she could talk about her feud with another one of his speechwriters.

All ego, no principles.

She’s really quick. It only took her 5 years to figure out what most of us extremists knew immediately.

As far as I can tell, FReepers are upset that she didn't wholeheartedly endorse Romney (imagine that), and that she predicted the Obama tsunami. Life is hard, I suppose.

That being said, she's a "touchy-feely" writer, and it grates.
