How Rising Atmospheric CO2 is a Biospheric Benefit
CO2 Science ^ | October 2013 | By the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change

Posted on 01/25/2014 7:20:12 PM PST by Brad from Tennessee

At a fundamental level, carbon dioxide is the basis of nearly all life on Earth. It is the primary raw material or "food" utilized by the vast majority of plants to produce the organic matter out of which they construct their tissues, which subsequently become the ultimate source of food for nearly all animals and humans. Consequently, the more CO2 there is in the air, the better plants grow, as has been demonstrated in literally thousands of laboratory and field experiments. . .

. . .increased levels of atmospheric CO2 generally produce increases in plant photosynthesis, decreases in plant water loss by transpiration, increases in leaf area, and increases in plant branch and fruit numbers, to name but a few of the most commonly reported benefits. . .at the International Conference on Rising Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide and Plant Productivity, it was concluded that a doubling of the air's CO2 concentration would likely lead to a 50% increase in photosynthesis in C3 plants, a doubling of water use efficiency in both C3 and C4 plants. . .

Numerous studies conducted on hundreds of different plant species testify to the very real and measurable growth-enhancing, water-saving, and stress-alleviating advantages that elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations bestow upon Earth's plants (Idso and Singer, 2009; Idso and Idso, 2011). In commenting on these and many other CO2-related benefits, Wittwer (1982) wrote that "the 'green revolution' has coincided with the period of recorded rapid increase in concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide, and it seems likely that some credit for the improved [crop] yields should be laid at the door of the CO2 buildup." Similarly, Allen et al. (1987) concluded that yields of soybeans may have been rising since at least 1800 "due to global carbon dioxide increases. . ."

You’re not supposed to pint out things like this.

"not supposed to pint out"

Mind your p's and q's (pints and quarts).

I was looking over a possible land purchase. It had the most luxurient growth of poison ivy I have ever seen. The oner said it is much worse now than decades ago.

I’d also assume it also leads to an increase in plant reproduction. If you see a related discussion in an anti-CO2 publication, it will probably warn about accelerated growth of weeds or poison ivy.

How do you support millions of giant plant eating dinosaurs millions of years ago with today;s CO2 levels...

You don’t

CO2 is estimated to as much as 10X as high when the dinos were around than now!!!!!

Yes. Facts are not needed by the Left. In fact Pedro Obama Mann says that “We don’t need no stinkin’ facts. Just keep the grant money coming in. ‘We need to protect our phony, baloney jobs”.

The eugenics crowd exposed why they want CO2 reductions. If they can’t put them in the ovens, they’ll simply starve them to death.

Example, in the animal world, where there is food available, there will be animals. Where food is scarce it will be barren. Put out a bird feeder or deer corn in the back (if you live rural) and see what happens.

the analysis showed that yields probably will increase by 33% (with a 99.9% confidence interval from 24 to 43%) with a doubling of atmospheric CO2 concentration.

From https://dl.sciencesocieties.org/publications/aj/abstracts/75/5/AJ0750050779

Their meta-analysis also shows that "Growth at elevated CO2 delays the adverse effects of drought stress..."

Most plants do better with elevated CO2, weeds included. Weed control does not change however. Weeds have to be contained and then replaced with competing desired plants. Personally I find it’s easier to control weeds when the plants I want grow better.

That's right; you're supposed to quart them out instead.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

In the days before chemicals were used to control weeds and grass it was much easier to grow corn than some other things like melons or even cotton because if given a chance corn will grow fast enough to shade out weeds and grass. Of course the old varieties of corn grew taller as well so that helped. The shorter stalks would not shade things so well now.
