DEA agent goes to pot, leaves fed agency to join marijuana industry

Former DEA Agent Patrick Moen — whose career with the Drug Enforcement Administration went up in smoke when he joined the lucrative legal marijuana industry — isn't likely to spark an exodus from the agency, former colleagues say.

Moen, 36, quit his post in Portland late last year and is now working for Seattle-based Privateer Holdings, a private equity firm specializing in acquiring businesses in the burgeoning marijuana industry. The attorney who once spent long days dismantling drug rings throughout the Pacific Northwest will now help the company with state and federal compliance issues.

“I think he doesn’t represent the hard work of every other agent and the DEA,” DEA spokeswoman Dawn Dearden told FoxNews.com on Tuesday. Dearden declined further comment, but Moen’s former boss said he considers the move to be a source of frustration.

“It is disappointing when law enforcement officers, sworn to uphold the laws of the United States with honor, courage and integrity, abandon their commitment to work in an industry involved in trafficking marijuana,” Seattle-based DEA Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Barnes told Reuters.

A fitting microcosm.

America has opened its arms to unbridled evil in so many ways of late.

No different than the Justice Department lawyers who go to work for the mob or ex-IRS agents who go tell you how to file your taxes.

Our gubmint is for sale and the “law” officials work for pay only (including under the table). No on up HOLDS the law anymore.

I DON’T wanna live in anarchy. When are the grown ups gonna be back in charge???

If the DEA was actually fighting a war, they would have been defeated decades ago.....It’s like the border patrol....We have upwards of 30,000,0000 illegals in country...They blew right by um.... They’re behind them....lol

Maybe they could go work on booze. It kills more people than wild weeds.

I tried to emathize with DEA pos’n; sorry.

War on drugs and all ... SWAT, etc.

This agent is most likely going to a much more straight forward, honorable position!
