On Tuesday, retired Army Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford will walk into the U.S. House for President Barack Obamas State of the Union address wearing his dress blues.
Lunsford, one of the victims of the 2009 Fort Hood massacre, said he wants the nation to see a survivor.
I want all Americans to see the true meaning of patriotism and resolve, said Lunsford, who will be the guest of Rep. Roger Williams, a Republican whose congressional district stretches from the edges of Tarrant County to Austin.
I want to be there just so that our commander in chief can see me and know that we [the Fort Hood victims] are bouncing back, Lunsford, 47, of North Carolina, said in a phone interview. Thats the spirit of the American soldiers.
Lunsford, who is among those still seeking combat-related healthcare and benefits because the shooting is classified as workplace violence rather than terrorism, said he hopes his presence sends a message.
Williams and other members of Congress have been working on legislation to ensure that the victims of the attack at Fort Hood one of the worst mass shootings on a military base, in which 13 people died and nearly three dozen were injured receive the same benefits as Purple Heart recipients, which include combat-related special compensation.

He ewill either be (a) ignored by the MSM, or (b) portrayed simply as “yet another victim of gun violence in our horrible culture”. There is no room inside the shriveled Leftist brain for self-doubt.
I’m not seeing where you draw any conclusion from the article for your parenthetical comment with the headline. Are you anticipating an anti-gun message by the Pretender?
the GOP should man up and invite the Navy Yard survivors. Boston marathon survivors, and also the Benghazi survivors to watch the SOTU as their guests
If I were boner... and if I were we would all be better off but still... if I were boner... I would have all four Benghazi families at that SOTU and they would have T-shirts on that read, “IT MATTERS to us more than ANYTHING”!
My parenthetical comment is my opinion. Why would he have a Fort Hood shooter in the box? To highlight the success of gun free zones? To highlight the fact that this is still termed “workplace violence”?
Since the government had the Muslim “soldier of Allah” who murdered 14 (the unborn baby counts) on its payroll, I would think this survivor would be a prime example of government’s insane PC disease, and its social engineering in our military.
Sorry, I don't see it that way. I think it is meant to embarrass BroncoBama about the Democrat's claims of work place violence as opposed to what it really was - Islamic terrorism.
Fort Hood shooter= Fort Hood survivor
I can guarantee that this article, or any reference to it, will not see the light of day in my local Platitudinous Obama Official Propaganda Outlet.
Maybe I should just use the statement as a tag line.
"Lunsford, who will be the guest of Rep. Roger Williams, a Republican...
Oops, missed that. My fault. Mods, please take my parenthetical musings out of the title.
Need to have some coffee before posting.
There was only one Ft Hood shooter—and he will most definitely NOT be there.
Whoops!—didn’t see your corrections—sorry!
There are so many Obama failures to cover at the SOTU. And so little time. Gun control is just one. I'll be watching with the sound off.
no room inside the shriveled Leftist brain for self-doubt.
There is more to it than that. Their ideas CAN’T be wrong, thus when they fail it is only because they didn’t do them enough.
On another note, I just wonder how it feels to be a human prop....
Thanks and dittos to b_a1 and RIF for Red. Just spitballing here, Red, but I'm going to say Rep. Williams is absolutely on the other side of what your comment ass-u-mes.
