The Queen’s household finances were at an “historic low” with just £1 million left in reserve, MPs said on Monday. Her courtiers were advised to take money-saving tips from the Treasury.

A report by the Commons public accounts committee found that the Queen’s advisers were failing to control her finances while the royal palaces were “crumbling”.

MPs said her advisers had overspent to such an extent that her reserve fund had fallen from £35 million in 2001 to just £1 million today. …

Interesting. I'm wondering what those sources of income are? I'd assumed that the royals mostly got their money from the Civil List via Parliament.

Looks like the household accountants have been on a bit of a binge. Her majesty has been verty frugle but only has a million pounds left. OMG!

Ideas to see the Royals through this “rough patch” ....

1. Rent out the Buckingham Palace courtyard for rock concerts.
2. Lease half of the palace itself to Station Casinos, and call it Palace Station East.
3. Put the Queen on an American-style 99-week unemployment program. It’s not like she’s ever worked.
4. Furlough all 3,000 maids, butlers, chefs, chauffeurs and gardeners on all but Saturdays.
5. Let the Royals experience the joys of rationed, socialized health care, just like the little people. No more private, high-end care... too expensive.
