Ford Motor Co. will use rotating shifts — two weeks on, two weeks off — to avoid indefinite layoffs at its assembly plant, located west of Cleveland.
Ford said Monday that rotating shifts for 1,000 workers at its Avon Lake plant will begin in August and continue until a new product launch in 2015.
The auto maker says rotating shifts will mean most Avon Lake workers will get 74 percent to 100 percent of regular fulltime pay.

Huh!, how is that possible unless they are working 7 days a week?
Quick web research notes this where the Econoline is made, which is to be replaced with the large “Transit” Van. One could speculate by this move pretty extensive assembly line redesign, replacement, and re-tooling is occurring and this manpower schedule change is needed to make it happen....
They get laid off for short periods, maybe draw unemployment, or union bennies cover the shortfall.
If they wouldn’t charge two arms and two legs for vehicles, maybe they’d have more sales and wouldn’t have to lay off employees. That or kicking the union out.
