so, who thought this wasn’t true? I thought David & Solomon were historical figures, or I am just dumb? I actually studied from the Bible for an ancient history class I had once.

Don’t really know much about the Bible, but I never doubted these were actual guys, never doubted that David wrote the Psalms, even if the baby story was maybe made up.

Set me straight, Freepers!

I had a law professor that gave me the best reason to believe that the Bible is historically correct. The professor was a big liberal, but also an ancient history buff. He said that all ancient historians removed all of the bad things and only recalled the good things. As a historical document, it is exceptional that the Jews wrote such detail with warts and all.

A fellow student brought up that such and such governor did not rule during such a period, so the Bible was defective. The professor popoo'ed any discrepancy about who was governor at such a period, because "we really don't know who was "governor during that time" except what was written in the Bible." And not five years later I read an article; which stated that the archeologist were astounded when they found direct evidence that the name of the governor during a certain period was what the Bible said it was, rather than several centuries later as what was earlier believed. Kind of like the Governor John Brown lived served in 1825 and his great great grandson, John Brown, served in 1950.
