So many folks assume that San Francisco Bay Area is absurdly liberal. It's not. San Francisco was founded by Irish, Italian and later on, Chinese immigrants. The Chinese sent only men to work on the railroad, fulling intending that they return to China when the transcontinental railroad was completed. They didn't go back to China; they stayed.
The Chinese are VERY conservative and so were those Irish and Italian immigrants.
