I can remember years ago (40’s) someone had a brilliant plan to get the ice off their car windshield. They put candles on the dashboard and went back in the house to eat breakfast. The candles were too close to the windshield and the glass cracked.

Some folks like to keep busy and enjoy the peace and quiet of shoveling. ;-)

I just heard on the radio that we had a 17 car pileup in town yesterday...

must have been a lot of those Northerners from Michigan etc who moved down here and don’t know how to drive in snow ...

:)

It is the Snowmageddon.

Atlanta simply cannot handle ANY snow. Not even a dusting, which this was.

I was talking about the school in the south in general. And no matter what.....200 kids stuck in school is a result of basic stupidity.

“The article says there are 600 kids at Marietta High School alone.”

I drove by the school about 11am yesterday and there was a very light snow falling, but nothing sticking to the road. By the time I drove back past at 11:20am there was snow starting to stick to the sides of the road and the pavement in the median where cars weren’t traveling. In my subdivision about 4 miles away the anti-lock on my brakes kicked in when I tried to brake to turn into my subdivision, so there ice forming by then. An hour later the roads were definitely icy.

My wife made it out of Buckhead and into S.Cobb County in good time, but spent 2.5 hours stuck on the E-W Connector trying to go the final 8 miles due to cars not being able to get up hills.

You’re right about the ice. In the south the ground is generally warmer than the north so when the snow falls the bottom layer turns to ice.

I remember once driving north on the interstate from Charleston when it started to snow. Every last one of the tractor trailers pulled off the road. I soon found out why. I did too. I’ve driven in snow all my life but nothing like that.

Why did you allow your snow to freeze? As a northerner, this is incomprehensible to me. You shovel it while it’s still warm and then throw down something easy to buy - kosher salt for instance - so no one slips.

Yes, but he might hurt himself (the other week he had a mysterious bad back, first time he’s really been worried) or even more get his headaches/colds because for some reason he is susceptible to cold when his ears are exposed. The longer one is out, the more likely the cold penetrates whether one has good covering or not.

Also, it wastes time we could do something else!

I understand your husband. We always clear the porch for the mail lady. Then we put down salt of some sort. If she slips, we’re in for a lawsuit.

Preferably, yes, but you can still drive that car over 3-4” of “frozen” snow. Less than that and it becomes sheet ice, but if it’s higher it’s not that big a deal.

Yale was off northwest Hiway right by the VFW post.
which during deer season had a big rack outside and
when the vets would come back from hunting they would
put their game up on it to brag and have a snort.
Don’t remember the “cellar” but remember the bowling
ally had 4 lanes and pin boys, and a spotter on the
foul line.
Remember some resturant where they brought your order
around on an electric train set on the counter.
Remember going to the movie on Saturday and staying
ALL DAY, there was a taxi stand next door that sold
all kinds of penny candy. The theater was near the park
So long ago now.

we had “gumboots” when I was a kid...

we wore them to school in wet weather or when it snowed once every 10 years..(like in TN)

they sell gumboots at Walmart so I have a pair...

I don’t know what they are called here but they are rubber and go up near the knees...

I wore mine yesterday to move my car and feed the birds...

On the radio they just announced “watch out for sledders today”

that’s something we don’t see a lot here in SE TN ...

its going to be 29 today 8 tonight...

I just went outside on my back deck..

the snow is still powder it didn’t freeze Weird...

He doesn’t enjoy it - he gets aggravated and “resigns” himself to having another job to do.

Even if I tell him he doesn’t have to do it!
