They weren’t children. Anybody who can pummel somebody with regard as to whether they live or not are not human.
And I don’t think 30 teachers could look after 75 non-humans.
There was a great story a in the Balt Sun years ago about this single black working Mom in Baltimore city who got a good job and decided to move West to Balt county Reisterstown.
In the city she sent her kid to private schools but thought the expensive public schools of that part of Baltimore county would be just as good (money=better right?)
She soon pulled her children out and put them back in private school when she saw the standard student, dress, behavior, language and very low school academic standards of that public school.
You see the real problem was more than $$$, it was disinterest of the other parents who demanded nothing of the free school.
That was a great school decades earlier but those residents are gone.
Who do I envisage a 5 foot 300 pound woman sitting down on the opposite side of the gym looking at her smartphone?
Ninety percent chance she pronounces her name Pursey-fone.
Having been heavily involved in large scouting events when our kid was that age, there is no reason that FIVE adults in a confined environment with 75 kids missed this.
They (most or all) either weren’t in the gym, or they simply ignored the incident. One or the other.
If this kid has been getting beat up regularly, the school has an obligation (perhaps legal) to notify other parents.
It’s a war zone by normal middle class standards. The reality is that short of turning the grounds into a prison like environment, they can’t do very much about the chaos. Assuming very many of the school board or school administration even cares to do so.
A close friend that retired from teaching a few years ago (St Augustine, FL) told me that the [black] principal at her school had 11 illegitimate children by various women. Outside of a few like her, no one seemed to much care. And like her, those that did, had to keep quiet until time to retire.
I am going to assume the little girl was black, as were the attackers.

In 1989, I stayed in PG (Capitol Heights) while visiting DC. I’ll never do that again.
In the 2000s I had to take frequent trips to Northern LA county and trying to find decent place to stay, with a decent commute to work there, was a real chore.
Van Nuys is a real craphole.
I learned early to avoid LAX and instead fly SouthWest to Burbank.

Obviously, these 5 teachers were otherwise occupied. If you are paying any attention at all, a beating of a child by four other kids would be hard to miss.
