Obama's foolish proposals won't fix distressed economy

Promising to address inequality and strengthen the middle class, President Obama’s State of the Union address combined sound and foolish proposals, laced with good, old-fashioned demagoguery.

Despite nearly five years of economic recovery, the fortunes of working Americans have decidedly worsened. The president’s policies should carry considerable culpability and bear correction.

Instead, he pronounced that upward mobility has stalled—when non-partisan economic studies show that’s not true—and insisted the wealthy should pay to balance the accounts.

Thanks to the president’s free-trade policies, multinational corporations and talented Americans have earned huge income gains selling know how and services around the globe. Meanwhile, the stuff ordinary Americans make is increasingly shut out of the fastest-growing overseas markets.

This speech was to the democrat base hoping for gains in November. And it will resonate with the “99 percenters”. Liberals who have less hate those who have more. Unless those who have more are liberal politicians. They love them.

I must not be a good listener. I missed all the sound proposals.

:: .

Comprehensive immigration reform would help. Bringing undocumented workers out of the shadows would raise the wages they command, and those of citizens competing with them.::

So obombya is wrong except the author agrees on immigration? And what the hell are these shadows the keep talking about? One illegal just got the right to practice law. Doesn’t sound too shadowy to me.

I think you are right. The president will ask for the minimum wage to be increased to $10.10, Republicans will say no, and we will have a year of hearing how much Republicans hate working people.

One thing that stuck in my craw (I think it was my craw,anyway), Obama called for an increase in the minimum wage, and he said that he would lead the way and force contractors who work for the government to pay a minimum of $10.10 per hour to their workers. Lead the way? Its not the money comes out of his pocket or anything. He made it sound like he was making some sort of sacrifice or something. As always, he was just being generous with other peoples money. I mean, paying more than you need to when you are running trillion dollar deficits, what an idiot!
