Wendy Davis’ Campaign Just Started a War with the TX Press Corps (Update: TX Media Explode in Rage)

Before I get to the tweets that serve as a timeline, we need to set the stage. David Rauf is the Austin bureau reporter for the San Antonio Express-News and the Houston Chronicle. Those newspapers serve Texas’ largest and second-largest cities. They are big dogs among the Texas press. Jan Soifer is the chair of the Travis County Democratic Party.

The Travis County Democratic Party held a fundraiser with Wendy Davis on Tuesday, and Davis delivered her stump speech. That’s normal stuff. But in a highly unusual move, the TCDP and the Davis campaign barred the event to all but one media outlet, the Texas Tribune, which livestreamed it. According to Rauf, not only did the Tribune get exclusive access, a Davis campaign press release told other media to stay away. They would not be welcome or admitted.

Rauf took to Twitter today trying to get some answers, because apparently the TCDP and the Davis campaign have circled their wagons....

Wendy Davis ought to just throw in the towel and drop out. Her campaign is just lurching from disaster to disaster.

Greg Abbott’s campaign is probably amazed at their good fortune. They’re also playing it smart and letting Wendy shoot herself to pieces.

That’s good for Mr. Abbott. When someone makes an ass of themselves, shut up, stand back and let it happen.

Yes, I feel the same, and likewise about the awestruck welcome given to Barack Obama when he stole the limelight in his first presidential campaign, circa 2007.

Whenever I think of the stupidity of the American voter, I think of faux squaw and seven years ago...

You’re dead on right. If you’re a progressive, Wendy’s narrative is compelling. The fact that it is not true doesn’t matter. Same thing with Warren. Most voters know they are lying but they will vote for these psychopaths anyhow.

No, actually, the Dallas/Ft Worth MSA as a whole is the largest population center in Texas and fourth largest in the United States and creeping up on being third.

Do you know who the Dem's will draft if she drops out? I'm pretty sure I do, and I want Wendy to stay in the Race.

What makes you think the Texans who 24 years ago embraced Anne W. Richards won’t fall for Wendy? The Republican record in governing has been marginal though they have won nearly all statewide offices during that time. Many finally want a liberal like the rest of the country has; like the Hebrews of old demanding a king though they were warned it was not in their best interest. People are too uninformed for self-government.

I had a small suspicion that would be the case. Dallas *the city* is quite small, and actually has very little housing. It’s when you take the Metroplex around it (even excluding the Mid-cities and Fort Worth) that you get a “big” city. In that sense, yes, San Antonio *city* is the second-biggest, but DFW as an overall news market dwarfs the others.

Everything that has happened enhances her resume in the eyes of Rat voters. She'll get the sympathy vote and be a poster child for the war on women. Just like Elizabeth Warren (only Davis won't win the general). But she'll pull in a bunch of Rat resources in the losing effort - resources that would be better spent to defend the LA and NC Senate seats.

Your post is revealing because it shows how the leftists hide the fact that big liberal cities are dying. The leftist demographers include exurbia, labeling these as “area,” to make the claim that leftist cities are growing in population. In fact, nearly all liberal cities have lost families by the 10s of millions since the 1990s. They fled to exurbia and the jobs have followed them. Seattle, for example, has more dogs than children.

No, the San Antonio paper (at least the one in English) is second tier. The influential papers are the Chron, the DMN, and the StartleGram.

San Antonio is bigger than Dallas?

Inside the city limits. Jacksonville is a lot bigger than Atlanta, as well. SA is about 1.33 million, Dallas clocks in at 1.2 million. In comparison, Atlanta is about 440,000. Jacksonville is over 800,000.

And yes, I know filing has closed, but I figure they’d find some way around it.
When NJ Senator Robert Torricelli’s first term ran out in 2002, he stood for reelection and was renominated despite a flaming corruption scandal. A businessman named Doug Forrester (wikipedia link) ran against strongly against him as a Republican, and Torricelli’s poll numbers tanked. The result was that it was clear that a (gasp) Republican was about to win the Senate seat; something had to be done. And it was.

Torricelli was induced to withdraw, and the Democratic Party went to court to get retired NJ senator Frank Lautenberg onto the ballot. The NJ law stated that a party could change its nominee up to a certain date, which had passed. No problem. One of Ann Coulter’s books described the New Jersey Supreme Court (not the correct name) as the worst in the nation “against some stiff opposition.” The court held that the Democratic Party had a right to a nominee who could win, fully vindicating Ann's judgement. I wish I were exaggerating, but . . .

The court ordered the replacement of Torricelli on the Democrat line and, like clockwork, the retread Democrat beat the “good government” Republican.
