Mass. prison officials appeal sex-change ruling

Massachusetts prison officials are appealing a decision that would force taxpayers to pay for a sex-change operation for a transgender inmate serving a life sentence for murder.

The state Department of Correction said Friday it will request a hearing by the full 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Michelle Kosilek.

This is beyond ABSURD. In any conversation or ruling where the idea of granting an inmate permission, not to mention paying for it, should be met with immediate, uncontrolled laughter.

No one in their right mind could agree with allowing a criminal prisoner to have a sex change operation while serving their sentence. When they get out, and pay for it themselves, knock yourself out. This is an abomination.

No private insurance would pay for an unnecessary procedure. But political correctness and the fact that it costs the judge nothing combine to force it on the taxpayers.

By the way, prisoners in some states who are on dialysis get kidney transplants over citizens so that the prison system can stop paying for dialysis. Frankly, if they can’t pay on their own, I’d be inclined to let nature take its course.
