In WWII occupied France, the French citizenry turned in far more Jewish people for deportation to death camps than the Nazis requested. They just aimed to please their fascist masters.

Yes, that undoubtedly happened, but, to be fair, there was also an anti-Nazi French underground at the time without which the Allied invasion of Normandy and the subsequent military defeat of Nazi Germany would have taken longer and fewer European Jews would have survived.

The French underground provided valuable intelligence for the Allied Normandy invasion and the military campaign in France which fallowed. And eventually, after Paris was liberated, a French Army under DeGaulle was reformed and contributed somewhat to the Allied military effort against the Nazis for the duration of WWII.
