Maine’s supreme court foists choose-your-own-bathroom policy on entire state

The supreme court of Maine has issued an opinion declaring that transgender children in the state’s public schools must be allowed to choose their own bathrooms despite their genitalia or how uncomfortable other students may feel about it.

The 5-1 decision, which came down on Thursday, marks the first time any state’s high court has ruled that transgender kids can use the bathroom with which they identify rather than the one matching their biological trappings, reports the Bangor Daily News.

The case, which originated in 2009 and stagnated for years in Maine’s courts, involved a fifth-grade student who wanted to use the girls’ bathroom. School officials said no because the student was not, in fact, a girl.

The child’s parents and the Maine Human Rights Commission sued the school district. The way the school treated the student and bullying by other students were also at issue.

“This sends a message to my children that you can believe in the system,” said Wayne Maines, the father of the victorious student, according to the Daily News.

The now-teenage student, Nicole Maines, also spoke to the press.

“I wouldn’t wish my experience on another trans person,” the transgender student said.

Jennifer Levi, director of the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) transgender rights project, was pleased with the outcome....

Even if I do not have a trans-gender dilemma, I want to be able to choose the bathroom I go into. Whatever one is the cleanest. lol

It’s a good point. what if people have a phobia about germs to the point they want to pick the cleanest bathroom?

This is insane. This makes me want to have an ability to clear the effing bench when a stupid-ass decision gets forced on the vast majority who does not want it.

Just take all the judges who vote for insanity and they’re off the damn bench forever. Law license gone, you’re flipping hamburgers at Burger King now.

My opinion is that this “trans” issue has no place in our schools. This decision thus is absurd because we shouldn’t have to deal with it.

I don’t pretend to understand “trans-whatever” issues. But, I think that any such issues should be restricted to consenting adults, not underage children.

If someone is an adult, and decides at that time that they are “gay” or “trans” or whatever, that’s one thing. But, by definition, children who are deciding that they are not their biological sex, are being enabled by liberal parents, liberal mental health professionals, liberal school officials, and liberal judges. And to me, these issues shouldn’t even be up for discussion among children.

They should knock down the walls around the justices’ bathroom, so the whole world can watch them while they pee and poop. Maybe some auto-cameras, too, hooked up to the internet.

I can’t say I have any desire to watch, but no doubt there will be many of their beloved perves who will.

lol

Nothing will turn women against the sodomite movement faster than adding a bunch of men in dresses to their long lines at the bathroom who spend all their time inside the stall trading feces together.

There's no logical reason why this absurd decision should not apply to all government-owned and operated facilities. If not, why not?

people used to be placed in mental wards (or prison) for going into the wrong bathrooms all the time

now we have political hacks and court judges ordering such things...

truly, the inmates have taken over the asylum

Pro-gay, PC interpretations of the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause aside, the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect so-called gay or sexual orientation rights.

Therefore, the states are free to make laws, imo, which discriminate against constitutionally unprotected things like gay and transgender “rights,” as long as such laws don’t also unreasonably abridge constitutionally enumerated rights.

So if Maine citizens don’t like the pro-transgender “laws” being legislated from the bench by activist judges, but are too lazy to exercise their voting power to get such judges off the bench, then that is their problem.

Perhaps businesses can have a private pay potty? I would pay to go into a private bathroom. I will not go to the bathroom with men and I don’t care if that man thinks he’s a woman or not.

Why in the world would hormone-driven adolescent boys want to use girl’s bathrooms?

I expect Paul LePage, America’s Governor, to say that he will not punish any district that refuses to enforce the ruling.
