Obama to huddle with House Dems (Photos allowed during the retreat?)

President Obama will host House Democrats at the White House next Tuesday for a “roundtable discussion,” press secretary Jay Carney announced on Friday.

Vice President Biden will also attend the event, the White House said.

Earlier this month, Senate Democrats met at the White House for a pre-State of the Union discussion. The president and senior staff mingled with lawmakers for drinks and policy discussions.

Obama will be meeting with Democrats from the upper chamber again on Wednesday, when he's scheduled to address their annual retreat at Nationals Park.

The meetings come as the party gears up for what is likely to be a tough midterm election fight. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he planned to discuss electoral strategy next week with the president.

Reid also said he would encourage vulnerable Democrats to campaign with the president.

“Barack Obama is personally a very popular guy. And people love this man. They love his family,” Reid told CNN. “Of course, with what the Republicans have been doing, trying to denigrate him with what's happened with the rollout of ObamaCare, but things — even this week, his numbers are going up again.”

On Thursday, Carney dismissed concerns about Democrats' unwillingness to appear with the president.

“He obviously supports Democratic candidates, both incumbents and challengers across the country, and I think we’ve amply demonstrated that support already and he will continue to do so,” Carney said.

When did Bush ever have get-togethers with Republicans-only, and bar Democrats from attending? And they called him divisive.
