Israel is set to give its wary assent to US Secretary of State John Kerrys framework peace proposal as the basis for continuing talks with the Palestinian Authority through to the end of 2014, Channel 2 news reported on Saturday night.
The TV report said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman are all inclining to accept the US framework terms, some of which were detailed by Martin Indyk, the State Departments lead envoy to the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, in a conference call with American Jewish leaders on Thursday. The framework document would have to be finalized in the next few weeks, ahead of a scheduled fourth and final phase of Palestinian prisoner releases set for March, the report said.
The US framework document, whose terms will not have to be signed off as fully binding by the Israeli and Palestinian leaderships, provides for talks on Palestinian statehood based on the pre-1967 lines with land swaps to enable 75 to 80 percent of settlers to come under Israeli sovereignty, relates to Israel as the Jewish state, provides for compensation for refugees but no Palestinian right of return, and does not go into detail on the fate of Jerusalem, Indyk indicated.
Well-placed political sources told The Times of Israel at the weekend, meanwhile, that Netanyahus agreement to continue peace talks on the basis of the framework proposal need not provoke a coalition crisis with the right-wing Jewish Home party. Provided the framework deal was not binding and was not brought to a government vote, the sources said, the partys leader, Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett, would likely not choose to bolt the coalition over it.

And the US will be leading from the front.
Kerry is an enemy of the West.
Has been since the 1970s
Nobody in their right mind would trust him.
Does it mean the Knesset could have Netanyahu declared "insane" and ignore any treaty he signs? LOL
Kerry was a worthless POS in 1971 when he testified agains’t his own and he is a worthless POS now. He is still unfit for duty.
The Fakestinians have done nothing to deserve a state. Palestine is nothing more than a place to launch and maintain an Iranian/Syrian proxy war with Israel.
Politicians talk tough and operate in the middle at the end of the day.
If Netanyahu caves on this and lets Iran get a nuke without military action, we know what he is made of.
Blaming Obama or Kerry or someone else doesn’t cut it.
Menachem Begin, Golda Meir and David Ben Gurion must all be turning over in their graves right now.
Destroying Israel along with USA The Obama agenda from the beginning. He’s been consistent about it and he’s making considerable progress on both fronts.
Sounds like Obama and his functionary Kerry are making headway to kill the Jews and advance the Muslims, once again. Obama is an enemy of Christians and Jews and is spreading the terrorists throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

Woo hoo!! And the first 36% is in!! Thank you all very much!! |
Add Yoni Netanyahu to the list of people rolling in their graves!
Puhleeezel...Israel will agree to it because they know it will never happen. You have a better chance of taking away all of Syria’s WMD.
That’s the problem. For Joel 3:2 to be fulfilled, it means that IT WILL HAPPEN!

Don't know if it's a legal requirement, but I believe Netanyahu has indicated any disengagement agreement would be subject not just to the Knesset, but a popular vote. Don't recall if the Gaza withdrawl was approved by the Knesset. I presume it was, defacto at least, since the government didn't fall.
Why Israel is putting up with Kerry is beyond me.
After Sharon’s death I read somewhere that the Knesset had rejected the Gaza disengagement but that Sharon, in typical fashion, went ahead with it. I have never checked the veracity of this statement, I am just reporting what I read.
The legislation refers only to land under Israels sovereign control, meaning a referendum will not have to be held to give areas of the West Bank to the Palestinians. Any peace deal that requires giving away parts of Jerusalem or the Golan Heights, or land swaps, will have to be put to a popular vote. jta
You're probably correct, Abbas probably won't recognize Israel as a Jewish State or give up the right of return. Though if he does, the PLO charter is clear that he doesn't have the authority, so the new state would be no more bound to the agreement than Americans would if Obama suspended the 2nd amendment. As long as we recognize the PLO as the representative of the people, aka the peace partner, without a charter amendment any agreement along these lines is invalid.
You are right, Israel National News reported that the Knesset passed the disengagement plan on October 27, 2004. I am trying to find out what I read before, but I spent days reading about Sharon, it’s going to be like finding a virtual needle in a haystack.
Ken for Bein. Lo for Meir and Ben Gurion.
